NAIR GETS PRIDE OF INDIA AWARD
Bollywood filmmaker MIRA NAIR will be honoured as the Pride Of India at an awards show in New York City next month (May07).
The director, whose movies include The Namesake (2006), Monsoon Wedding (2001) and Salaam Bombay (1988), will be presented the gong at the annual South Asian entertainment company show.
Nair says, "The brilliant thing is that there’s room for all of us - for our four hour Bollywood extravaganzas and for my independent work - because we come from a place whose heart is as big as the ocean.
"And to those who worry about us filmmakers becoming more international than Indian, I say this - it is because my roots are so strong that I can fly."
