BARBA LEADS BILLBOARD LATIN WINNERS
Mexican singer MARIANO BARBA was the big winner at the Billboard Latin Music Awards in Florida last night (26Apr07), taking home four gongs.
The cowboy-hat wearing singer picked up Hot Latin Song, Regional Mexican Airplay Song of the Year - Male Solo Artist and Regional Mexican Airplay Song of the Year - New Artist for Aliado Del Tiempo (Ally Of Time), and Regional Mexican Album of the Year - New Artist for his album at the star-studded ceremony at the BankUnited Center in Miami.
Teen pop group RBD followed close behind with three trophies, including Latin Pop Album of the Year - Duo Or Group and Top Latin Albums Artist of the Year for their disc Celestial, as well as Latin Tour of the Year.
Mexican singer Paulina Rubio sang at the ceremony, before picking up Latin Pop Album of the Year - Female and Latin Pop Airplay Song of the Year Female.
Jennifer Lopez’s husband Marc Anthony received the Tropical Airplay Song of the Year - Male, while Shakira and Wyclef Jean’s mega-hit Hips Don’t Lie was named Hot Latin Song of the Year, Vocal Duet.
Singer/actor Miguel Bose was given a standing ovation when he received the Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award for his decades-long career.
