BALLET CHOREOGRAPHER SMUIN DIES
Dance choreographer MICHAEL SMUIN has died from a heart attack. He was 68.
The award-winning star was rehearsing with his company, Smuin Ballet, on Monday (23Apr07) when he collapsed. He was rushed to San Francisco General Hospital but was pronounced dead soon after.
Smuin, the co-artistic director of the San Francisco Ballet, was honoured with a Tony Award in 1988 for his work in the Broadway production of Anything Goes, as well as an Emmy Award for Great Performances: Dance In America in 1984.
He is survived by his son Shane, and his brothers Stephen and Douglas.
