GEST’S MARRIAGE TO MINNELLI LEFT HIM CYNICAL ABOUT LOVE
LIZA MINNELLI’S ex-husband DAVID GEST has praised his new girlfriend Malandra Burrows for helping him overcome the cynicism he felt about romance following his rocky marriage to the Caberet star.
Gest’s divorce to Minnelli was to be finalised last week (ends22Apr07) nearly four years after the couple split following 16 months of marriage.
After they split, Gest accused Minnelli of leaving him needing hospital treatment after beating him in "vicious rages" and sued her for $10 million (£5.12 million).
The lawsuit was dismissed and Gest came to an agreement with Minnelli over their divorce in January (07).
And the judge of British TV talent show Grease Is The Word - who started dating English soap actress Burrows earlier this year (07) - claims his brief union to Minnelli left him so bitter about love he was "sceptical" of getting back into a relationship.
He says, "After being married to an alcoholic you’re very sceptical about getting into a relationship, especially when you’ve been through as much of a rollercoaster as I have, but Malandra keeps me in line."
