James Brown’s funeral director is still waiting for more than $70,000 in unpaid payments. The legendary singer was given an elaborate send-off after following his death on Christmas day – but almost half of the hefty $150,000 bill is yet to be settled by the trust handling Brown’s estate.
Augusta C.A. Reid Funeral Home manager Charles Reid told USA Today newspaper: "I’m just waiting on them to get some of this mess straightened out. I really haven’t pushed the issue, even though I’d like to have my money." Trustee Buddy Dallas said a cheque to cover the remaining bills had been sent on Wednesday (18.04.07). He said: "It was the children that ran up a funeral bill of over $150,000, not the trustees. We’ve done our very best to do what we could to accommodate the creditors. There’s no great big pile of money or surplus of money just lying around." The ‘Sex Machine’ singer – who passed away aged 73 from complications resulting from pneumonia – was commemorated in three ceremonies spread over three days, which included costume changes for the star. Public services involved the star’s body being driven through New York streets in a horse-drawn carriage. Brown was then taken back to his Georgia hometown for a service at the Augusta James Brown Arena where his body lay in an open golden casket. An attorney for Brown’s six children, Louis Levenson, claims it was the trust’s responsibility to pay the funeral costs, adding that the bill was a "reasonable" amount.
The singer’s children have asked the court to order the trustees to provide accounting records of their father’s estate. It has been claimed the trustees have been going against court orders by trying to sell some of Brown’s assets. Buddy – Brown’s long-time advisor – said the allegations were "bogus and baseless". A court hearing has been scheduled for later this month.

The rocker has reportedly become besotted with stunning Kate and has been partying at her favourite London nightclub, Boujis, in a bid to meet her.

The prince - who ended his four-year relationship during a skiing holiday - left his Army barracks at Dorset’s Bovington camp to watch Will Ferrell comedy ‘Blades of Glory’ accompanied only by his police bodyguard.

The 25-year-old singer believes she understands the pressures of such a public break-up and was keen to offer her commiserations.
A source told Britain’s Daily Express newspaper: ‘She’s sad for William that his relationship hasn’t worked out.
‘She understands what it’s like to have such a high-profile break-up. She has started writing him a note and is going to send it before the end of the week.’ Britney - whose divorce from estranged husband Kevin Federline was finalised last month - has corresponded with the 24-year-old royal in the past.

The 33-year-old star is furious with the TV chef after he neglected to tell her the animals he delivered to her Hertfordshire home were to be killed and eaten on his show ‘The F-Word’.
A source told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper: ‘Victoria gets on really well with Gordon so when he asked if she wouldn’t mind looking after the lambs on her 25-acre grounds she agreed. He said they needed space to gambol around in. She met them when they were delivered and thinks they’re adorable.
‘What Gordon neglected to mention, though, was that he was planning to have them killed.

The judge was caught on camera making a face at fellow judge Paula Abdul when contestant Chris Richardson interrupted Simon’s critique of his "nasal-y" singing to pay tribute to those killed in the horrific campus shooting, in which 33 people died.
Simon told ‘American Idol’ host Ryan Seacrest on his radio show: ‘We must address this crazy story that appeared that I rolled my eyes disrespectfully at Chris because he made the comment.
"The truth is that I had switched off at that point. I was saying to Paula, ‘What does he mean he was singing nasal-y on purpose?’ I didn’t understand what he was saying.
‘So I hadn’t even heard what he’d said afterwards. And my eye rolling is what I was saying to Paula. I have never heard so much rubbish.
"You know what, half of the time I can’t hear what they are saying, and I don’t think they can hear what I am saying." Richardson had defended his performance, before he said: ‘My heart and prayers go out to Virginia Tech. I have a lot of friends over there. Be strong.’ The camera then cut to Simon’s seemingly insensitive look.
The British music mogul has now commended Richardson for his comments.
He said: ‘Chris was right to have said what he said because he is from that neck of the woods and if I would have heard what he said I would have responded properly to that.
"The irony was that we discussed this before the show and wondered, ‘What do you do in a situation like this when something terrible happens? Do you ignore it?’ ‘Ryan Seacrest wanted to say something in the beginning, which I think was right. And I thought we should do something at the end to sort of close it. I wanted to say to the kids it was a difficult week for everybody.’ Ryan added: ‘Let’s just be honest, no human being would be that disrespectful to anybody involved in that awful tragedy.’

Tom Cruise and his daughter flew to Shreveport, where his wife Katie Holmes is filming ‘Mad Money’, so the family could spend the milestone birthday together. A source told the New York Daily News newspaper: "Katie is already down there and Tom and Suri will be flying in." The photographer, who was locked in a paternity battle with lawyer Stern for custody of the late Playboy model’s daughter Dannielynn, has revealed Stern has been a great help to him since he was revealed to be the biological father.
Larry said in an interview with America’s OK! magazine: ‘It seems unlikely, but he’s been a great help. He’s been with Dannielynn the last several months. He knows her likes and dislikes and things that could help me. He gives me credit when I’m doing good things and gives me tips on things I should do a little different.
‘People blame him a lot, but Anna had her own mind too. She had a choice and we were arguing and that’s what happens. I’m thankful that everyone can get along for Dannielynn. How could you not?’ Stern was named as seven-month-old Dannielynn’s father on her birth certificate, and tried to evade DNA tests for several months.
As well as the custody battle for Dannielynn, Birkhead, Anna Nicole’s mother Virgie Arthur and Stern also fought for custody of the actress’ body.
She has finally been laid to rest in the Bahamas.
Arthur is now solely fighting Birkhead, 34, for custody of her granddaughter.
He said: ‘It’s puzzling for her to display affection to me and then for the attorneys to say she’s going for custody and Larry was just a sperm donor and a one-night stand.
‘Then they all come and shake my hand. You’ve gotta scratch your head and say, ‘What’s going on here?’ ‘I’m willing to listen to see what people want, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to agree. I hope I don’t have to fight for the baby.’

Chris Rock has asked a court to determine whether he is the father of a teenage boy alleged to be his. The comic star has filed papers seeking to settle the paternity dispute started by journalist Kali Bowyer - who claims her 13-year-old son is the result of a fling with the star.
According to papers filed by Rock’s attorney to the Bulloch County Superior Court on Monday (16.04.07), Chris "desires to contribute to the support, maintenance, and education" of the child if it is proved he is the father.
Brett Kimmel, Bowyer’s lawyer, said his client is "looking forward to establishing that Mr. Rock is the father of their son and bringing the case to a swift conclusion". Kimmel did not comment on the nature of Bowyer’s relationship with ‘Bad Company’ actor, nor why she waited 13 years to file a paternity claim. It has been reported that Bowyer unsuccessfully approached Rock privately on the matter for several years.
Rock, 42, has been married to Malaak Compton since November 1996. The couple have two daughters, Lola Simone, four, and Zahra Savannah, who will turn three in May.

LARRY BIRKHEAD was stunned when Zsa Gabor’s husband PRINCE FREDERIC VON ANHALT put himself forward as a potential father of ANNA NICOLE SMITH’s baby Dannielynn.
Birkhead was finally confirmed as the biological father of the baby on 10 April (07) after months of legal battles and the tragic death of the tot’s mother in February (07).
Before DNA tests confirmed who parented the child, Birkhead was being named as one of three possible fathers alongside Von Anhalt and Smith’s partner Howard K. Stern.
However, photographer Birkhead admits he never saw Von Anhalf as a serious contender.
He tells British magazine OK!, "I thought that was funny.
"I’d actually pop some popcorn and sit in front of the television with it when he’d come on just to laugh at him."

LARRY BIRKHEAD has praised his former love rival HOWARD K. STERN for being a "great help" in looking after his daughter DANIELYNN, following the tragic death of the tot’s mother, ANNA NICOLE SMITH.
