Britney Spears has penned a letter of support to Britain’s Prince William following his spilt from Kate Middleton.
The 25-year-old singer believes she understands the pressures of such a public break-up and was keen to offer her commiserations.
A source told Britain’s Daily Express newspaper: ‘She’s sad for William that his relationship hasn’t worked out.
‘She understands what it’s like to have such a high-profile break-up. She has started writing him a note and is going to send it before the end of the week.’ Britney - whose divorce from estranged husband Kevin Federline was finalised last month - has corresponded with the 24-year-old royal in the past.
She even gave him a signed photo of herself before William started dating Kate four years ago.
The pop star previously confessed she had a crush on the handsome royal, saying: ‘I’d love to marry Prince William. Who wouldn’t want to be a princess.’ William and Kate’s split was announced at the weekend.
It was speculated that while the 25-year-old brunette was ready to get married, William felt too young to settle down and was keen to concentrate on his Army career.
It is now believed that the break-up was more of a mutual decision.
The couple met in 2001 when they were students at Scotland’s St Andrews University and were predicted to get engaged this year.
