Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II is set to be the subject of a documentary described as the real-life version of hit movie ‘The Queen’.
RDF USA is producing the work, which promises to offer an in-depth behind the scenes view into the monarch’s life.
‘Queen Elizabeth: The British Monarchy at Work’ will include content specially sourced from hundreds of hours of footage and will show the queen and her family at home in Buckingham Palace and at state functions.
Insiders revealed that the programme is set to throw light on the royal family’s carefully guarded private world.
RDF USA topper Chris Coelen told Variety magazine: ‘They’re such an iconic family and a huge presence in the world. What this will do is give a behind-the-scenes look that nobody has ever seen, from the unbelievable amounts of formal events that the queen has to participate in to her personal life, what she does in her off-time.’ The programme is set to be aired on US network ABC later this year and has also been snapped up by the BBC for airing in the UK. It is expected that the documentary will be shown in various other countries too.
Though Elizabeth turns 80 this year, insiders say the programme will show that the queen still leads a staggeringly active life.
The royal took part in 1,250 formal meals over the last year and shook about 300,000 hands. She embarks on an official state visit to the US next month.
‘The Queen’ - for which Dame Helen Mirren won an Oscar for her touching portrayal of Elizabeth - met with glowing reviews and earned $56 million at the US box office.
