U2 guitarist THE EDGE and Latina singer GLORIA ESTEFAN will receive honorary doctorates next month (May07).
The rocker, real name David Howell Evans, will be commended for his contribution to music by the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.
Estefan will be honoured alongside her musician husband Emilio and jazz pianist Andrew Hill.
Berklee spokesman Allen Bush says the musicians were chosen for honorary doctorates based on achievements in music and contributions to American and international culture.
Other stars who have received honorary doctorate in the past include David Bowie and Aretha Franklin.

LATEST: Two arrest warrants have been issued for troubled rapper DMX after he failed to appear at separate court hearings on Tuesday (10Apr07) and Wednesday (11Apr07).
The hip-hop star, real name Earl Simmons, was due to appear in Yonkers City Court, New York State on Wednesday (12Apr07) to answer charges of driving with a suspended license, stemming from an October (06) arrest.
The previous day, DMX was a no-show at White Plains City Court, New York State, for charges of speeding, changing lanes dangerously, driving without a seat belt and using a suspended license following a June (06) arrest.
White Plains Judge Brian Hansbury had given the rapper until 2pm (local time) on Wednesday to appear in court, but after he failed to show yesterday, issued a warrant.
Meanwhile, 20 kilometres (13 miles) away, Yonkers Judge Charles Wood was also issuing a warrant.
The 36-year-old’s lawyer Murray Richman, says, "In truth, I do not know where he is. Why would he be hiding out from a damn traffic infraction?" Simmons failed to appear in court last summer (06) to answer the June 2006 charges and an arrest warrant was issued.
He was jailed on 28 June last year, but released on $2,500 (£1,300) bail.

The prince attended the international match with his girlfriend Chelsy Davy, who he has been holidaying with in the Caribbean for the past week, and a group of friends.
Throughout the game he was seen taking photos of the 21-year-old blonde beauty, who was sat two seats away.
While 22-year-old Harry looked cool in a crisp white shirt, Chelsy had opted for a sleeveless summer dress and shades. Chelsy - who embarked on a world tour in January - sported a golden tan after soaking up the scorching exotic sun on the beach last week.

The prince will collect the accolade, which recognises his tireless work for his country and people, in a ceremony on April 23.
LJMU vice chancellor Professor Michael Brown told Britain’s Daily Telegraph newspaper: ‘Through his charities and extensive patronage, Prince Charles has helped many people fulfil their true talent and potential.
‘He also works tirelessly to promote and protect what he believes is good about Britain and its people.
‘It is for this vision and commitment that LJMU is proud to welcome him as an Honorary Fellow of the University.’ Charles - who is first in line to the throne - joins an eclectic list of fellows, including former Queen guitarist Brian May, TV chat show host Paul O’Grady and legendary TV presenter Johnny Ball. After receiving the honour, the prince will deliver one of the university’s Roscoe Lectures - named after Liverpool’s William Roscoe who famously campaigned for the abolition of slavery.
The ceremony will take place on St George’s Day, which will also see the official opening of the city’s St George’s Hall which has undergone a £23 million restoration.

Oliver Jufer, 57, was released from Chang Mai prison in Northern Thailand two weeks after being sentenced.
Last month he pleaded guilty to five charges of insulting King Bhumibol Adulyadej - breaking the countries lèse majesté law.
Jufer admitted drunkenly spraying graffiti across posters of the country’s revered monarch on December 5th last year, the king’s 79th birthday.
His original jail sentence of 20 years was reduced by half after he signed an apology.
Jufer - who has lived in Thailand for over 10 years - faced a maximum sentence of 75 years in jail.
Thailand’s lèse majesté laws prevent free discussion of the monarchy and have previously come under criticism for their ability to be misused.
Feuding politicians sometimes even accuse each other of lèse majesté.
In Thailand the 79-year-old king is highly revered. His portrait is everywhere and cinema audiences must stand for the king’s anthem before every film.
Last week access to popular internet site YouTube was blocked throughout the country because it included a 44-second video clip mocking the king.
The video featured pictures of cartoon footprints over King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s image. The image was interpreted as a massive insult as feet are considered dirty and offensive in Thailand.
The clip also featured the Thai national anthem as its soundtrack.

She’s not real interested in sticking to her traditions, but I understand it’s also the Queen of England, and if she would like some tea, I’m definitely going to be ready.’ The queen will also be treated to smoked salmon and cucumber tea sandwiches with Boursin cheese and strawberries, scones, crumpets with orange marmalade and shortbread cookies with different coloured chocolate to represent the colours of the jockey’s silks.
The queen - who will attend the race with her husband Prince Philip - will be the first sitting British monarch to attend the Derby.

Birkhead is determined to raise Dannielynn alone after DNA tests proved he is her biological father.
However, Anna Nicole’s mother Virgie Arthur has indicated she may apply for custody, saying: ‘I’m glad to find out who the father is, I just want to be the grandmother. It’s not over, but it’s getting a lot better.’ Birkhead doesn’t want a custody battle and insists he will let Arthur visit whenever she wants.
He told the ‘Today’ show: ‘We might go from one fight to another, but I’m hoping that’s not the case because there’s only one dad, and I have no problem with anyone that has good intentions being allowed to visit the baby and be a part of the baby’s life.
‘It would imply that I’m unfit as a parent, which I’m not. I’m looking forward to giving Dannielynn everything that she needs and all the love and support.’ Howard K. Stern - who was named as Dannielynn’s father on her birth certificate - said he was ‘disappointed’ by the DNA results but will support Birkhead in any custody battle.
Stern revealed: ‘I’m obviously very disappointed, but my feelings for Dannielynn have not changed. I’m going to do whatever I can to make sure Birkhead gets sole custody.’ A hearing to determine who will raise the seven-month-old baby will be held tomorrow (13.04.07).
Birkhead, who claims he was in a relationship with Anna Nicole until May 2006 when she was five months pregnant, has been seeking custody of Dannielynn for months. Dannielynn could inherit an estimated £240 million fortune from the estate of Anna Nicole’s late oil tycoon husband J. Howard Marshall, depending on a forthcoming court ruling.
Anna Nicole had been fighting Marshall’s family for his estate since his death in 1995 and the battle is yet to be resolved.
The former Playboy model died on February 8, aged just 39, from an accidental drugs overdose.

The rapper entered the plea in relation to charges of the sale or transportation of marijuana and possession of a gun by a convicted felon.
Snoop was handed a five years’ probation period, a three-year-suspended sentence and 800 hours of community service.
The 35-year-old star - who also agreed to make public announcements against violence - could have been jailed for four years.
Judge Terry Smerling laid down the conditions of Snoop’s probation at the Los Angeles court hearing yesterday (11.04.07).
The star can only spend 400 hours of his community service working with the youth American Football league he helped found.
The judge also ruled Snoop must provide authorities a DNA sample and he must have a medical permit if he uses marijuana.
Snoop’s lawyer Donald Etra said the rapper-and-actor smokes marijuana because he has migraines and has a medical permit under state law.
If Snoop violates his probation he faces three years in jail.
The star - real name Calvin Broadus - was arrested at California’s Burbank airport last October, after police found a handgun and marijuana in his car.
Another gun was found in his Los Angeles home last November following a police search.
The ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ star is forbidden from ever owning a gun, following his conviction for possession of drugs for sale in 1990.
He is currently facing separate charges relating to the discovery of a collapsible baton found in his bag at Orange County’s John Wayne Airport last September.
