WAHLBERG CHERISHES FATHERHOOD

MARK WAHLBERG is relishing being a dad and is happy to leave partying behind for the sake of his family.
The actor, who recently received an Oscar nomination for his role in Martin Scorsese’s film The Departed, has two children Ella Rae, three; and one-year-old Michael, with partner Rhea Durham and admits to being a hands-on father.
He says, "As a father I’m about an eight or nine out of ten. I’ve change some diapers and done some baths, I tuck them in and read to them but Rhea is doing more diaper duty and bathing that’s for sure.
"My friends might think that it’s boring but there’s nothing better than being woken up at five thirty than my daughter jumping on the bed with her wild bed head. That smile is enough to keep me in the house.
"Every once in a while I wonder what the guys are up to but I’ve been there and done that. Life is about maturing and changing."

CROWE KITS OUT TEAM IN ARMANI

Hollywood actor RUSSELL CROWE has splashed out on a line of Armani suits for his rugby team players to wear off the pitch.
The Gladiator star, who owns 75 per cent of Australian rugby league team South Sydney Rabbitohs, thought the team’s current visual style was less than inspiring or intimidating and decided to give his team a winning edge.
Crowe says, "The problems are that the Rabbitohs colours are red and green, which should only really be worn on Christmas day and our symbol is a rabbit, which hardly has the same suggestion of power as a lion.
"Now they put on the custom fit suit with its pinstripe jacket in cardinal red and myrtle green and they feel fantastic. It’s like putting on armour, it gives them an edge."

FERGIE’S GIFT TO MORISSETTE

THE BLACK EYED PEAS frontwoman FERGIE has sent ALANIS MORISSETTE a derriere-shaped cake after being impressed by the rocker’s version of My Humps.
After the video for Morissette’s version of the band’s hit song My Humps became a worldwide sensation on video website YouTube, the star sent the Canadian singer a congratulatory cake with a note attached reading "Alanis, you’re a genius. Love, Fergie." In Morissette’s video for the song, she sings a down-tempo version of the hit track while surrounded by men wearing sunglasses and fedora.

MR BEAN’S HOLIDAY RULES THE BOX OFFICE

MR BEAN’S HOLIDAY clung to the top of the UK box office for the second week running, making £2.5 million ($4.9 million) over the Easter weekend (7-8Apr07) alone.
The comedy, starring Rowan Atkinson, has now grossed a staggering £14.3 million ($27.8 million) in the UK.
Figure skating comedy Blades Of Glory, starring Jon Heder and Will Ferrell, entered at number two, taking £1 million ($1.9 million), just above war epic 300, which dropped one place to number three.
British sci-film film Sunshine is new at number four above Disney animation Meet The Robinsons at number five.

BEAN REJECTED FULLY MONTY ROLE

English actor SEAN BEAN turned down the lead role in 1997 British film THE FULL MONTY because he was too busy.
Many people thought the Lord Of The Rings star would have been perfect for the role, given that it was set in his hometown of Sheffield, England.
But the lead part was eventually handed to Scottish actor Robert Carlyle who had to adopt a different accent.
Bean says, "I was too busy. I think it was at the time when I was doing Sharpe and maybe it was a bit close to home, if you know what I mean."

GYLLENHAAL TOO SCARED FOR BROKEBACK CLIFF SCENE

JAKE GYLLENHAAL was too scared to take part in the naked cliff jump scene in BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, leaving his co-star HEATH LEDGER to do the honours.
Ledger, who also acted nude in his latest movie Candy, says he had no fears over the scene, but Gyllenhaal quickly opted out.
He says, "That was a 45-foot drop into freezing cold glacier water. That was me. And a stuntman. Jake chose to sit it out.
"I love jumping off things. I was chomping at the bit to get up there."

Ugly Betty star VANESSA WILLIAMS loves showing off the noisy present she was bought for her 40th birthday - a Maserati coupe sports car.
The actress/singer says the gift is the envy of her fellow cast mates, but she is allowed such extravagance because she is older.
She says, "It’s really fast - plus I get big props from the guys on the set of Ugly Betty because I can handle it. They love to hear me zoom up and screech to a halt. "Being able to get the toys I want is one of the true luxuries of getting older. I wish I’d always known about options like climate control - to think, I used to just roll down a window!"

HANNAH ADDRESSES SEX SLAVE ISSUE IN DOCUMENTARY

Hollywood star DARYL HANNAH is travelling around the world making a documentary about the problem of sex slavery.
Using her own money and resources, Hannah goes undercover and travels to brothels around the world, while recording the disturbing truth about modern-day slavery.
In AMERICA’S MOST WANTED, Hannah also works in Cambodia to free children used as sex slaves.
Her goal in making the film is to rescue the slaves she discovers and shed light on the growing issue she holds close to her heart.
Hannah herself nearly fell victim to a sex slave operation in Las Vegas when she was only 17, but fortunately managed to escape.

IRONS AGAINST BRIT BAN ON SMOKING

British actor JEREMY IRONS fears the forthcoming English ban on smoking in public places will change some of his life-long habits, including staying at posh London hotel The Savoy.
The Oscar-winning Brideshead Revisited star says he will have to give up some of his favourite hobbies when the national ban comes into force this July (07).
He says, "I think the character of places across London will be changed by the ban. I went to the Savoy recently only to find that I couldn’t smoke, so I won’t be staying there again. Smokers will go to different places." And Irons believes he won’t die from his nicotine addiction.
He adds, "Personally, I am unconvinced that smoking kills you. I think genetics takes a more important role."

ROSCOE LEE BROWNE DIES

Actor ROSCOE LEE BROWNE has died following a long battle with cancer. He was 81.
The star of stage and screen passed away at a medical centre in Los Angeles yesterday (11Apr07).
He will be best remembered for narrating films including Babe and the more recent Garfield and Epic Movie releases.
In 1986, he won an Emmy award for a guest appearance in the US comedy The Cosby Show.

WEISZ DROPS OUT OF MUMMY 3

Oscar winner RACHEL WEISZ has turned down a role in THE MUMMY 3, leaving her co-star BRENDAN FRASER without an on-screen wife.
Weisz and Fraser played love interests Evelyn Carnahan O’Connell and Rick O’Connell in Stephen Sommers’ Egyptian action movies The Mummy and The Mummy Returns.
While Fraser has signed on to star in a second sequel, Weisz is unable to commit due to a scheduling conflict.
The Fast And The Furious director Rob Cohen is set to take over from Sommers for the third movie, which is scheduled for release next year (07).

KURT VONNEGUT DIES

US literacy figure KURT VONNEGUT has died following a fall at his New York City home. He was 84.
Vonnegut, who became a cult figure among students in the 1960s and 1970s with his classics of US counterculture, died from brain injuries after the accident yesterday (11Apr07).
He will be best remembered for Slaughterhouse Five, which was based on his experience of the firebombing of Dresden, Germany, during World War II.
The author is survived by his wife, photographer Jill Krementz, their daughter and his six other children.

KAISER CHIEFS PARTIED HARDER PRE-FAME

British rockers KAISER CHIEFS lived a ‘more rock ‘n’ roll’ lifestyle before they began storming the charts.
Frontman Ricky Wilson, 29, admits he was more badly behaved before the five-piece leaped to fame in 2004 with their mega hit I Predict A Riot.
The star tells Maxim magazine: "We were more rock ‘n’ roll before - I went out more and did more crazy things back when I wasn’t famous.
"The thing about bands - the really s**t ones - is that people in the band feel the need to live up to a rock ‘n’ roll cliche."

LUMIDEE HONOURED BY ARTHRITIS CHARITY

R&B singer LUMIDEE feared she would never be able to walk again after contracting rheumatoid arthritis, but claims her ambition to succeed spurred her on.
The Spanish-born singer has since been named Youth Ambassador for the 2007 Arthritis Walk on behalf of the New York Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. She says, "I was fourteen years old when I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis.
"At 19 years old, the doctors said I would never walk. I worked hard and all that hard word paid off when I was able to dance in my latest music video.
"I want to give other young people the confidence they need to stop this disease from controlling their lives and ask everyone to come out and join the fight against arthritis by participating in the 2007 Arthritis Walk." The event will take place on 29 April (07) in Battery Park, New York City.

Legendary rock band QUEEN have inspired a new line of ice cream, which includes the flavour Bohemian Raspberry.
US ice cream giant Ben & Jerry are keeping up their music-themed ice creams brands which have previously included ‘Phish Food’ inspired by the band Phish, the Grateful Dead inspired ‘Cherry Garcia’ and ‘Glastonberry’ flavour, named after the legendary English music festival Glastonbury.
Queen guitarist Brian May says, "It’s Queentastic! Rhapsolicious! So cool it’s not funny! But only if the next one is ‘We Will Chock You’!" The brand will raise money for the Mercury Phoenix Trust fighting AIDS worldwide.

BLEEDING THROUGH FIRE AND HIRE GUITARIST

American band BLEEDING THROUGH have sacked guitarist SCOTT DANOUGH and have gained Australian rocker JONA WEINHOFEN in his place.
The remaining members of the Orange County, California-based group say the decision was amicable and wish Danough every success.
A statement read, "We felt that we had grown apart and it was time for both parties to move on. We wish him the best.
"We are already writing new material and looking forward to our next tour, which will be in Canada." As a result of the switch, Weinhofen’s band I Killed The Prom Queen have split, citing the inability to find a new guitarist behind the break-up.

HALLIWELL BECOMES CHILDREN’S AUTHOR

Former SPICE GIRL GERI HALLIWELL is set to follow in her childhood idol Madonna’s footsteps by launching a career as a children’s author.
The singer, who named her daughter Bluebell Madonna after her icon, says she first started writing when she fell pregnant.
The 34-year-old, who has been signed up by Macmillan Children’s Books, says creating the book’s main character, nine-year-old Ugenia Lavender - who like her own daughter shares her name with a plant - was "an adventure".
Halliwell, who has already had two autobiographies published, reveals she aspired to be an author as a youngster and says her literary influences come from authors C.S. Lewis, Enid Blyton and Oscar Wilde.
She says, "Writing for me feels like home. I’ve always written - at school I loved writing stories and creating mini-worlds where anything can happen.
"As a Spice Girl I wrote lyrics for many of our hits and have continued to do so in my solo career." The six-book series of stories, illustrated by Rian Hughes, will published between May to October 2008.
