The star of 12 TARZAN films, CHEETA the chimpanzee, celebrated his 75th birthday this week (10APR07).
Cheeta is the world’s oldest chimp and has outlived both his human Tarzan co-stars JOHNNY WEISSMULLER and MAUREEN O’SULLIVAN.
The chimp was first discovered by an animal trainer on a trip to Africa in the 1930s and went on to be the star of the blockbuster movies throughout the 1930s and 1940s.
He is currently living in a primate centre in Palm Springs, California.
