Christopher Reeve’s high-tech wheelchair has been snubbed by the Smithsonian Institution of museums. The late ‘Superman’ star’s family were left devastated when Washington’s Museum of American History "wanted more than the wheelchair" - requesting additional items relating to Christopher’s battle with quadriplegia. Museum curator Katherine Ott told the New York Post newspaper: "We want more than the wheelchair. We need the whole history of his experience, not just one piece. We want the fuller story, not just the chair. What if people look at only the chair 50 years from now? It won’t tell the whole story." Deborah Morosini, the sister of Christopher’s late wife, Dana – who died of lung cancer in 2005 – said she had offered the institution the chair, but was upset by the additional requests.
The other items the museum asked for included Christopher’s medications, exercise equipment, a special bike and a tiltboard. They also requested literature the star had collected and letters he wrote detailing his condition, which was caused by a horse-jumping accident in 1995. Before his death in 2004, Christopher was a symbol of hope to paralysed people all over the world, and dedicated his life to furthering awareness of the condition.

The royal’s abstract watercolours were bought for 82,000 kroner - the equivalent to almost £7,500 or $14,800 - smashing all expectations.
Lennart Gottlieb of auction house Lauritz.com told Dutch reporters: ‘We had expected that they would generate a high price. Only a few items by the queen are auctioned and it has been difficult to estimate the market price.’ The queen, 66, who has reigned since 1972, presented the artworks to the auction house as a gift. Margrethe - who suffers from arthritis - is a keen accomplished artist and also a costume designer.

The Bolshoi Ballet company will stage their work Princess of the People at the city’s world famous Bolshoi Theatre.
British composer Keith Hearne has already recorded five music pieces for the ballet with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra.
Following its Moscow debut, the ballet will travel to London for a special performance to mark the 10th anniversary of Diana’s death.
The princess was killed along with her lover Dodi Al Fayed in a Paris car crash in August 1997.
Ilse Liepa, principle dancer with the Kirov and Bolshoi Ballet, will perform the leading role.
She said: ‘I heard about the new ballet and when I listened to the music was absolutely enthralled by the tunefulness and great emotion within the work.
I am certain that this ballet will become one of the great classics in the field of ballet.’

The prince - the husband of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth - will put his collection of Antarctica paintings by Edward Seago on show to raise money for charity.
Proceeds will go to the Scott Polar Research Institute - the oldest organisation of its kind in the world. The 85-year-old royal obtained the artworks as a gift from the renowned artist after he toured the Antarctic peninsular and the Falkland Islands in 1956. The paintings by Seago - who passed away in 1974 - have not been seen by the public for half a century. They will be displayed in an exhibition at London auction house Bonhams, as part of a bid to raise £5million for the institute. The Scott Polar Research Institute was set up in 1920 in memory of Captain Robert Falcon Scott and his team who perished while returning to their base after a pioneering expedition to the South Pole in 1912.

Crown Prince Willem-Alexander proudly showed off his new baby daughter - the couple’s third - just hours after Maxima gave birth shortly before 10pm on Tuesday.
The prince told reporters at a televised news conference: ‘She is an exemplary daughter, we’re very proud. ‘We had a relaxed night and the delivery went very well. We can’t wait to show her to (her elder sisters) Amalia and Alexia.’ The baby - whose name has not yet been announced - was born weighing a healthy 4.2 kilograms (9.1 lbs) at The Hague’s Bronovo Hospital. The newborn royal is set to be fourth in line to the throne, behind her sisters Amalia, three, and 22-month-old Alexia.
Argentinean-born Maxima, a former investment banker, married the prince in 2002.

The rapper - real name Calvin Broadus - was charged on Tuesday (10.04.07) with the sale or transportation of marijuana and possession of a gun by a convicted felon.
If convicted he could be sentenced to jail time.
Snoop’s attorney, Donald Etra, said: ‘These are the charges that were fully expected, and they will be dealt with in court.’ The 35-year-old rapper was arrested at California’s Burbank airport last October, after police found a handgun and marijuana in his car.
Another gun was found in his Los Angeles home last November following a police search.
The ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ star is forbidden from ever owning a gun, following his conviction for possession of drugs for sale in 1990.
Snoop has been in trouble with the law on several occasions in the last year.
Last September, he tried to board a plane in California while carrying a 20-inch collapsible baton in a computer bag.
The rapper-and-actor claimed the baton was a movie prop, not a weapon.
In March, Snoop was questioned by Stockholm police for suspected narcotics use.
The UK leg of his tour with P Diddy was cancelled last month after he was denied entry into Britain, following a brawl in London’s Heathrow airport last year.
Snoop’s arraignment has been set for today (11.04.07).

The Hollywood couple are said to be splashing out the enormous sum on a luxury 240ft-long three-deck yacht, which they have reportedly ordered from a company near Rome. ‘Brad is not against having more children, adopted or otherwise. The lakeside house in Hendersonville, Tennessee - which is now owned by Bee Gees singer Barry Gibb and was undergoing construction - caught ablaze and despite the efforts of the local fire department the building could not be saved.
Cash’s brother Tommy said: ‘It literally burned to the ground.
‘I watched it burn. I couldn’t believe that it was happening. It was just horrible.’ The famous glass and wood building on the shore of Old Hickory Lake apparently caught fire after a spark ignited a wood preservative applied to the interior.
Hendersonville fire chief Jamie Steele said: ‘We have a pretty good idea what happened.’ Gibb and his wife Linda bought the house last January.
The couple released a statement saying: ‘We are both saddened and devastated by the news.’ Cash bought the house in 1968 and he and his wife June Carter Cash lived there until their deaths in 2003.

Britney and Larry parted ways shortly after she married Kevin Federline, but were reunited after she filed for divorce.
Rudolph encouraged her to go to rehab and allegedly ordered her friends not to take her calls on the night she shaved her head.
A source told Us Weekly magazine: ‘There is tension. He’s been trying to get her help, and she doesn’t feel she needs it.
