GRINDHOUSE GRINDS TO A HALT AT US BOX OFFICE
Cult moviemakers ROBERT RODRIGUEZ and QUENTIN TARANTINO’s GRINDHOUSE double bill failed to deliver at the US box office over the Easter weekend - bringing in a lacklustre $11.6 million (£5.9 million) to finish fourth.
The project, which features Rodriguez’s PLANET TERROR and Tarantino’s DEATH PROOF, was expected to debut at number one, but experts claim the three-hours-plus running time of the films put many fans off.
Grindhouse was expected to make $20 million in its opening weekend, but fell well short.
Ice skating comedy BLADES OF GLORY kept the top spot for a second week, with an estimated $23 million (£11.8 million) take, while futuristic animated movie MEET THE ROBINSONS stayed at number two in its second weekend on release with $17 million (£8.7 million).
