LUIGI COMENCINI DIES
Italian director LUIGI COMENCINI has died following a long illness. He was 90.
The filmmaker co-founded the first film archive in Italy, the Cineteca Italiana, and is best known for movies including INGORGO - L’UNA STORIA IMPOSSIBILE and PANE, AMORE E FANTASIA.
His frequent and popular kids’ films earned him the nickname of "the children’s director".
WALTER VELTRONI, the mayor of Rome, Italy, paid tribute to Comencini in a statement: "A master, one of the great and unforgettable directors in the history of film." Comencini is survived by a wife and four daughters.
