COCA-COLA BLOCKS ITALIAN FILM RELEASE
Soft drinks giant Coca-Cola has blocked the Easter (07) release of an Italian film featuring Jesus drinking from one of its cans.
The movie, called SEVEN KILOMETRES FROM JERUSALEM, has had its release set back three weeks, according to producers, because of the legal wrangle.
It charts a jaded advertising executive’s encounter with a man claiming to be God’s son.
But Coca-Cola is furious moviemakers used its trademark without permission in a scene depicting Jesus drinking from one of its products.
In a statement the company says, "We don’t think it’s appropriate to use the subject of this film to create publicity for our brands.
"We advised the producer of this in writing, and are very disappointed that our request was not respected." The film was due for release today (06APR07) but will be postponed until the contentious scene is cut from the final edit.
