The stunning Latino star grew up thinking she had to be tall, blonde and blue-eyed to make it in Hollywood. Salma told Britain’s Easy Living magazine: "I had my struggles. I am 5ft 2in and in Mexico where I am from, it was very important to be tall. "I grew up in a world where beauty was not only tall, it was white and blonde with blue eyes. And I’m dark, have brown eyes and brown hair and I’m short.
"People used to say that the short thing was a deformity. I was really upset about my height and then one day I said, ‘Who decided that it’s better to be tall? Am I less healthy? Am I less capable?’ " The ‘Ugly Betty’ producer and actress recently announced her first pregnancy and engagement to businessman Francois-Henri Pinault. The 40-year-old beauty was an accomplished gymnast before pursuing a career as an actress starring in both Mexican and Hollywood movies. She is also the spokeswoman for Revlon and Avon cosmetics.

Police are still searching for two intruders after they set off hi-tech alarms at the Charles’ Gloucestershire home Highgrove, at 2.30am yesterday (02.04.07). The prince, 58, and wife Camilla, 59, were away in Scotland when the incident occurred.
A spokeswoman told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: ‘A search was conducted of the grounds but no one was found and no arrests have been made. A number of lines of enquiry are being followed up.’ She confirmed that the trespassing duo got into the grounds, but claimed they had not gone anywhere near the main house.
The estate boasts state-of-the-art security including infra-red cameras and pressure pads which can differentiate between humans and animals.
This breach represents the second security scare at the house in just nine weeks.
In January, a Bristol man brandishing a pitchfork found his way into the grounds while Charles and Camilla were asleep inside. On that occasion it was believed the man, 55, got in by scaling the fence.

Despite 50 years of faithful service, William - affectionately known as Backstairs Billy because he was Page Of The Backstairs - was abruptly laid off after the death of the queen mother five years ago. But Charles has not forgotten the 70-year-old former aide and made a trip to London’s St Mary’s Hospital to wish Billy a speedy recovery.
A source told Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper: ‘Staff and patients did a double take when they saw the prince. His visit was unannounced and no special arrangements were made. Only Billy seemed to take it in his stride.’ Billy was one of the queen mother’s favourite staff and turned down big-money offers to spill the beans on life behind the scenes in the royal household.
Despite this, Billy was hastily removed from his Gate House Lodge home following the queen mother’s death in 2002 and did not even receive a reply when he later applied for another Clarence House post. When asked about his conversation with Prince Charles, Billy said, ‘My, my word does get around, doesn’t it’, but refused to divulge any details. Charles has previously displayed kindness towards Billy, arranging a flat for him to live in and topping up his modest pension.

The King’s Troop of the Royal Horse Artillery took over guarding the queen’s residence for one month yesterday (02.04.07), and the 20-strong troop includes five women.
They marched into the led by a brass band wearing plumed busby hats and braided uniform tunics, carrying ceremonial swords.
The King’s Troop will provide a 24-hour guard for the palace with sentries on duty for two hours at a time.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence said: ‘Normally, these duties are done by resident infantry battalions in London but there have been occasions when other units have filled in. ‘At the moment one of the units is on its way to Afghanistan and one has just come back from Bosnia so we asked for support from the King’s Troop.’ In January this year the King’s Troop became the first unit to have a female commanding officer when Major Erica Bridge became leader of the 168 officers and troopers.
Bridge’s appointment made the unit the first in the 350-year history of the Household Cavalry to be commanded by a woman.
In 2000 four women were among an Australian detachment on guard duty outside Buckingham Palace during Australia week.
Almost 40 per cent of the King’s Troop - who fire salutes to the queen on state occasions - are now female.

‘They’ve personally selected acts they knew their mother loved in her lifetime and some newer one they felt she’d have appreciated.
‘It’s a fantastic bill and a testament to their powers of persuasion that so many stars have agreed to take part.’ Other performers added to the bill include Kanye West, James Blunt, Meatloaf, Bryan Adams and one of Diana’s favourites Rod Stewart.
Organisers are also trying to get Dire Straits, another band favoured by the princess, and the Spice Girls, to reunite for the concert.
Robbie Williams and George Michael, who both attended Diana’s funeral in 1997, have also been invited to the event, which marks the 10th anniversary of the princess’ death.
Money raised from the sell-out event will go to several charities, including the Diana Memorial Fund.

The couple use the lists to make sure they make enough time for each other and sex - among other things.

Music producer Sean Garrett - who has worked with Beyoncé Knowles, Jennifer Lopez and Mary J. Blige - is masterminding the troubled singer’s comeback record and thinks it will be ‘exceptional’.
Garrett said: ‘I’m working with Britney.
‘It’s really coming together right now. I know she’ll do exceptionally well now that she’s out of rehab.
‘The new album is like ‘Toxic’ times 10. It’s going to be a lot of fun and it’s really exciting. We did a lot of great work before her break.’ Britney, 25, and the producer had worked on five tracks for the new record before she entered Malibu’s Promises rehab centre on February 20.

A source told gossip website TMZ: ‘She spent most of her time in the jury room texting on her mobile phone.
‘She was really down to earth and talked to the other jurors.’ At one stage in the proceedings, the 39 other prospective jurors were ushered into the hallway, while Jennifer remained in the courtroom with a specially assigned deputy.
Another source said: ‘The jury room was quite chilly and after lunch she came back wearing a sweater and scarf and accompanied by a different assistant.’ At 2.30pm the case was resolved and all the jurors were free to leave.

KITT was the talking car in the hit series, and had the ability to fire smoke bombs, reach supersonic speeds and get rid of villains using the ejector seat.
Sadly, these features won’t be available when the modified black 1982 Pontiac Trans Am goes up for sale at a price of $150,000 (£76,000) - although the iconic red scanner light will be intact.
The car belongs to TIM RUSSO of Livermore, California who is selling it at a local car dealership in Dublin to fans eager to snap up a priceless memory of the show.
It was one of four identical vehicles used on the series for close ups with the lead actor DAVID HASSELHOFF who played MICHAEL KNIGHT on the hit show.
