MARADONA NOT SUFFERING FROM ‘REAL ALCOHOLISM’
LATEST: Argentine soccer legend DIEGO MARADONA was admitted to hospital last week (ends30MAR07) for reasons relating to stress and not just too much alcohol, according to his doctor.
The sporting ace, 46, is in a "stable" condition in a Buenos Aires hospital, where he was taken against his will, after over-indulging in food, alcohol and tobacco.
But physician ALFREDO CAHE believes stress was an important contributor towards Maradona’s condition.
Cahe says, "It isn’t real alcoholism. There was alcohol, diet, tobacco in excess, most certainly issues of privacy and of a high level of stress that was happening. All of that in greater or smaller amounts has affected him at this moment." Cahe describes Maradona’s condition as "fine and stable", although he will have to remain hospitalised for another week.
This is the latest in a string of health problems for the 46-year-old, who suffered heart attacks in 2000 and 2004 after overdosing on cocaine.
In 2005, Maradona slimmed down after undergoing gastric bypass surgery.
