The royal couple’s trip has been timed perfectly for Japan’s famous cherry blossom season, which they witnessed during an outing to the historic Kitain Temple. Silvia and Carl stopped to admire the stunning blossom with the Buddhist monk guide, who was showing them round the attraction in Kawagoe, just outside Tokyo, on Wednesday (28.03.07). The visit - hosted by Japan’s Emperor Akihito - is the couple’s first state visit to the region since 1980. Today (29.03.07) will be the last day of the couple’s week-long stay, and the king and queen are set to visit the Atomic Bomb museum, the Peace Park and the Nagasaki City Museum of History and Folklore before they leave.
During their trip, Silvia and Carl visited key business and charitable establishments and also enjoyed the scenery at Happoen gardens and teahouse.
