Britain’s Queen Elizabeth will be photographed by celebrity artist Annie Leibovitz to mark her state visit to the US.
The picture will be taken at Buckingham Palace in the next few days and will be released the day before the queen’s trip in May. It is the queen’s fourth state visit to the US and comes 50 years after her first stay, when she was a guest of former president Eisenhower.
Leibovitz met the queen at a reception for Americans working in Britain at the palace on Monday (26.03.07).
The American photographer revealed she shared a joke with the queen when the monarch asked her if she had found a suitable room for the photo-shoot.
She told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper: ‘I said, ‘I think you’ve got enough.’ ‘ Leibovitz added: ‘To have this opportunity is like a documentation and I want to take a very simple portrait.’ The 59-year-old artist is famed for her photograph of a naked John Lennon hugging a fully clothed Yoko Ono. The picture - for Rolling Stone magazine - was taken hours before Lennon was killed in New York City in 1980.
More recently Leibovitz shot a naked picture of pregnant actress Demi Moore for the front cover of Vanity Fair.
