VIRGINIA BOYS GET NOTICED
Country music outfit the STATLER BROTHERS have been honoured as Virginians of the Year by the state’s press association last Friday (23MAR07).
The Grammy-winning foursome, of which only two members are actually brothers, have released over 40 albums since their formation in 1955.
On accepting the accolade, frontman DON REID said, "It wasn’t always easy living in a small town in Virginia.
"But we were always glad we did it that way because if we hadn’t, we might not be here tonight, and if we hadn’t, not all our children would be Virginia-born, Virginia-reared and Virginia-educated, and that was important to us." Other members include HAROLD REID, PHIL BALSLEY, JIMMY FORTUNE - and former member LEW DeWITT - who quit the band in the 1980s for health reasons.
