Unicorn DUI

Posted in: Bizzare Stories — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:14 pm

A US man claims a unicorn was driving his truck when it crashed.
A deputy prosecutor, who misunderstood an email from a colleague which used the phrase "unicorn defence", believed Phillip C. Holliday Jr. was actually blaming a unicorn for the crash.
However, a unicorn defence is when a defendant blames a mythical person for a crime.
Holliday has actually blamed the crash on an unnamed woman.
County Attorney Dennis Paxinos said: "Mr. Holliday has other serious problems, but this is not one of them. It’s kind of a code between prosecutors and it was misinterpreted.
I apologise to the public, the court and to Mr. Holliday for the confusion." Holliday has pleaded not guilty to felony charges of criminal endangerment and drunken driving.

A Chinese man has grown his fingernails on one hand for 15 years.
Li Jianping, 43, of Shishi City, Fujian province, claims the nails on his left hand are now one metre long in total, but admits they have become an inconvenience.
He said: "I never go to crowded places. And during sleep, I have to keep my left wrist under my head to prevent the hand from moving." Jianping began growing his nails after learning about a man who was trying to break the world record for having the longest fingernails.
He explained: "When I was 20, I read a news report saying an Indian man had let the fingernails on his left hand grow to around one metre. Then I made up my mind to surpass him."

A Polish man sliced off his genitals after discovering his wife had left him.
Tadeus Konopizc, 40, from Zakopane, drank a bottle of vodka before using a six-inch kitchen knife to slash off his penis and testicles.
He phoned emergency services, which sent a special helicopter rescue team to fly him to a hospital which specialises in saving severed organs.
However, heavy fog delayed the helicopter and when Konopizc arrived at the hospital - it was too late to reattach his genitals.
It will take months to re-build Konopicz’s penis using skin from other parts of his body.

Fake flowers

Posted in: Bizzare Stories — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:14 pm

Bosses of a British holiday park have bought fake daffodils to replace real ones which have flowered early.
Visitors to Cumbria’s South Lakeland Parks are usually greeted by a host of the golden flowers over Easter.
However, the unseasonably mild winter has forced the bulbs to bloom earlier than expected, meaning they will past their best over the holiday period.
Staff at the five-star Lake District site on the shores of Lake Windermere have decided to take action by planting bunches of foot-long silk imitations.
Employee Caroline Guffogg said: "The fakes are extremely realistic".

Teacher’s pet

Posted in: Bizzare Stories — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:14 pm

A class of US school children are improving their literacy skills by reading to their teacher’s pet dog.
Tom Pawlisch, a third-grade teacher at Fall River School, holds after-school reading lessons with his retriever Kayla.
The unique teaching method apparently works because blood pressure lowers and anxieties are lessened in the presence of animals.
Irene Pawlisch, Kayla’s co-owner, said: "The dog doesn’t judge if the kids make a mistake, so the kids relax.
"They sit down and read and get to play with her afterward. They relax a little bit. It’s about getting kids excited about reading."

Teddy men

Posted in: Bizzare Stories — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:13 pm

More men than women take a teddy bear to bed.
A survey of 2,000 people found that 20 per cent of men admitted to sharing their bed with a cuddly toy, compared to 15 per cent of women.
According to the poll, 63 per cent also said they needed a bedtime cuddle to sleep.
British Hotel chain Travelodge conducted the study to coincide with the launch of their latest plan to help lonely travellers feel at home - the ‘Cuddillow’.
The ‘Cuddillow’ - which is being piloted in hotels in Newcastle, Durham, Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham - is a 2ft 6ins long pillow with two ‘arms’.

A month later two yellow chicks appeared.
Jessica said: "I wanted to see what would happen and mum said it might work, so we tried it. They are the cutest ducks ever." Jessica’s mum Elizabeth bought the eggs from Waitrose for £1.95.

Posted in: Bizzare Stories — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 7:55 pm

Japanese police were astounded to discover a stash of almost 4,000 knickers when they searched a man’s house Shigeo Kodama, 54, who was arrested in February on suspicion of stealing women’s underwear, had amassed the huge collection over six years.
Police found 10 pairs of stockings, 355 bras, and an astonishing 3,977 pairs of knickers.
Authorities believe the man used the climbing skills he perfected as a construction worker to gain access to women’s houses.
A police spokesman said: "As long as he had a place to put his feet he was able to climb, so he had no trouble getting up to the second floor of apartment buildings."

Homeless help

Posted in: Bizzare Stories — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 7:55 pm

A Polish supermarket has been forced to employ homeless people because so many locals have moved to the UK.
Tesco Poland is struggling to find staff and have resorted to contacting homeless shelters.
Dariusz Dobrowolski, the head of a shelter in Wroclaw, said: "Over the last few months lots of employers have been calling about staff. I would estimate that across the country several thousand homeless people have found work in this way." Critics insist the problem is not that people have left to go abroad, but that Tesco pay so badly nobody wants to work for them.

A US court stenographer has been jailed for typing too slowly.

Judge Greene said Smith had failed to finish the transcript after several months and had missed her final deadline last week.
Smith was released from jail after claiming she couldn’t do the work in prison because she was so worried about her three children at home.
Judge Greene allowed her out of jail, but she has been put under house arrest until she completes the work.

Poland’s skirt ban

Posted in: Bizzare Stories — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 7:55 pm

Poland is set to ban "men in skirts".
The move comes after a spate of incidents involving drunken Scottish men flashing outraged locals.
Agnieska Gaspar, 23, from Krakow, said: "You can’t go round the corner without seeing a Scot showing off what he has under his kilt while one of his mates photographs him." Police claim they cannot ban kilt-wearing, but a Wroclaw city council spokesman said: "We are still looking into the matter as we have had a number of complaints from people who were confronted by drunks lifting their kilts and exposing themselves and we feel that this is not the kind of behaviour our city wants to see. "Why would we want to see what a Scotsman wears under his kilt?"

Beans means fines

Posted in: Bizzare Stories — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 7:55 pm

A council in Britain plan to hide cameras in baked bean tins.
The plans announced by London’s Ealing Council hope to catch residents who put their bins out too early.
Tiny CCTV bugs will also be placed in house bricks as part of a £2 million scheme adopted by six councils.
Householders caught by the scheme could face fines of up to £1,000.
A spokesman for Tory-controlled Ealing council said: "To catch vandals and enviro-criminals, cameras disguised as anything from tin cans to house bricks will instantly email images to the council’s CCTV control centre." Local resident Danny Christie, 64, dubbed the scheme "utterly insane".
He said: "I’ve lived here all my life and have never heard of anything so screwed-up. Since when did forgetting to put your rubbish out make you a criminal?"

Talking cat

Posted in: Bizzare Stories — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 7:55 pm

A Chinese cat has learnt to say its own name.
Mr Sun, from Beijing, claims his two-year-old cat Agui calls out his own name when he gets frightened.
He said: "Last year I was helping him take a bath and he was scared of the water. After a couple of ‘miaows’ I heard a clear ‘Agui’.
"At first I doubted what I was hearing but he kept calling his name, very clearly, and sounding like a child." The clever cat has since been filmed saying its own name by the Fangzhuang Pet Hospital.
A hospital spokesman believes the cat can develop its speech further.
He claimed: "If the owner can give him systematic training, the cat should be able to speak more Chinese."

X-rated sign language

Posted in: Bizzare Stories — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 7:55 pm

A British children’s TV presenter mistakenly greeted kids with x-rated sign language.
Justin Fletcher, who plays CBeebies character Mr Tumble, made the mistake after getting his sign language drastically wrong.
He intended to start his show by signing "happy to see you", but ended up communicating something far less welcoming.
Jamie Miller, who works for the Royal National Institute for the Deaf, explained: "The signs for ‘happy’ and ‘f***ing’ are quite similar but it was an awful mistake to make." Angry parents complained about the mix-up, but the BBC denied making a mistake and claimed they were using Makaton signals, different to British sign language. However, an RNID spokeswoman countered: "Makaton is used more for children with learning difficulties - it is essentially a different language."
