Mohamed al Fayed’s legal team are expected to call for full access to the information used to compile the Metropolitan Police report into the crash which killed Diana and Al Fayed’s son Dodi.
A spokesman for the Harrods owner told Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper: ‘We will be asking for all the relevant documentation that exists. The lawyers will need access to everything that Lord Stephens had. It’s not just Charles’s interview or the correspondence with the Duke of Edinburgh, it’s other things to do with the forensics and the model that Scotland Yard used.’ The report concluded the car crash in a Paris tunnel which killed Diana and Dodi on August 31 1997 was an accident.
Operation Paget has spent three years investigating the deaths and collected thousands of pages of documentation. Mr Al Fayed’s representatives will demand access to witness statements gathered by the police.
Lawyers will attend the hearing at London’s High Court to discuss the issue of disclosure today (21.03.07). Baroness Butler-Sloss, who is presiding over the inquest, has also asked parties to submit their evidence, and their requests for what they would like the inquest to cover. It emerged at a hearing earlier this month the inquest will examine suggestions Diana was pregnant when she died, allegations that she feared for her life and the embalming of her body.
