VATICAN HAILS WAITS AS SAVIOUR OF THE MARGINALISED
Gravel-voiced singer TOM WAITS has been hailed a Christian role model by a Jesuit journal for his ability to understand "the marginalised and misunderstood".
The 57-year-old US star, whose songs include DRAGGING A DEAD PRIEST, has been singled-out by Father ANTONIO SPADARO in the Civilta Cattolica publication, which is subject to Vatican approval.
Spadaro writes Waits’ past of "drugs, alcohol and sex" means he can relate to "the lower depths" of society in his "authentic songs devoid of vanity and false illusions".
