KELLY OSBOURNE’S FANCY FOR LOUIS?

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:35 am

Mild-mannered Irish music mogul LOUIS WALSH has become the unlikely object of KELLY OSBOURNE’s desire.
The British pop star admits the Westlife svengali is her idea of a "sex god," insisting there’s a fiery interior beneath the pop manager’s calm and placid exterior.
Osbourne reveals she got close to Walsh when her mother SHARON joined the Irishman as a judge on TV talent show THE X-FACTOR.
And she says he oozes sex appeal "especially when he does an Irish jig."

  • NEESON USED TOUGH IRISH UPBRINGING TO INFORM VENGEFUL CHARACTER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:35 am

Growing up on the mean streets of Belfast, Northern Ireland in the 1960s and 1970s helped actor LIAM NEESON shape his vengeful character in new period movie SERAPHIM FALLS.
The MICHAEL COLLINS star admits he only had to conjure up memories of his upbringing in the troubled city to set himself up to play an American Civil War colonel with a score to settle.
Neeson says, "I’ve ruminated a lot and meditated a lot on revenge because I’m from the north of Ireland and a child of the 60s and 70s there.
"I was surrounded by violence for most of my young adult life. I wasn’t involved in it but I knew men who were and the idea of revenge or trying to right a wrong that was done 400 years ago just seemed anathema to me.
"And yet I respected these people’s passion for what they were committed to.
There is a certain nobility to it to a certain extent but the idea of dying for your country; the hardest thing to do and the bravest thing to do is to live for your country, which I wanted to do.
"I’m very proud to be Irish but I certainly wasn’t going to pick up a gun and kill a fellow Irishman or anybody else from any other country to prove my love for my country."

  • WENN IRISH MOVIE POLL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:32 am

by Kev Lewin As the sun rises on another St Patrick’s Day, WENN has decided to honour the Emerald Isle and all things Irish by looking back at the classic movies of Ireland.
From leprechauns and colourful characters to political dramas and violence, Hollywood has had a long and varied history with Ireland.
And countrymen like PETER O’TOOLE, DANIEL DAY-LEWIS, PIERCE BROSNAN and LIAM NEESON have become household movie names around the globe.
Even second-generation Irish stars, like SPENCER TRACY and JAMES CAGNEY, have celebrated their roots, co-founding the Irish Mafia in Tinseltown in the 1930s.
A group of Ireland-loving stars, the Mafia was strictly a social group, which would meet to tell stories and chat about films.
Ironically, many members of the Irish Mafia starred in classic movies set in Ireland or about the island’s legends.
Now WENN and website ClassicMovies.org have joined forces with a handful of top film critics to weigh up the movies of the Emerald Isle.
From classics like RYAN’S DAUGHTER and THE QUIET MAN to modern favourites like THE COMMITMENTS and MY LEFT FOOT, we revisited Hollywood’s Irish treats in a bid to come up with a definitive top 10 list.
With a little luck o’ the Irish, here’s what we came up with:
    1. Ryan’s Daughter (1970) Awe-inspiring David Lean film set in Ireland during World War I and featuring stunning performances, capped by John Mills, who won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his turn as a mentally-challenged village idiot
. The movie also starred Sarah Mills, Trevor Howard and Robert Mitchum.

    2. The Quiet Man (1952) One of the greatest films set in Ireland and one of movie great John Ford’s best movies, this features perhaps John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara’s most impressive performances
    . It’s a real treat.

    3. My Left Foot (1989) Daniel Day-Lewis stunned cinemagoers with his Oscar-winning portrayal of brave cerebral palsy sufferer Christy Brown, who battled his crippling illness to become an acclaimed artist
. Jim Sheridan cemented his reputation as one of Ireland’s greatest filmmakers with this inspirational tear-jerker.

    4. The Commitments (1991) One of the classic sleeper hits of modern cinema, Alan Parker’s film adaptation of Roddy Doyle’s novel about a Dublin soul band became a global sensation
. The movie lacked a big-name star but proved that you don’t always need Hollywood to make a big hit, just a good story and some powerful songs
. Andrew Strong’s soulful voice quickly became a talking point as this film took off
. Ironically, Strong wasn’t even among those initially considered for the film - he landed the part of Deco Cuffe, after showing up at an audition for his father, who was up for a role in the movie.

    5. The Luck of The Irish (1948) The first Hollywood film to deal with leprechauns, this film stars Cecil Kellaway as roly-poly elf Horace, who helps the film’s hero, played by silver screen icon Tyrone Power, discover his true values
. Not so much about Ireland, but heavy on the spiritual side of Irish life, where family and happiness come before material gain.

    6. Darby O’Gill & The Little People (1959) A wonderful Disney family film with excellent special effects for the time and a pre-Bond Sean Connery.

    7. Waking Ned (1998) Another great sleeper hit about the members of a small Irish village that join forces to collect the lottery winnings of a dead local
. More than anything, this film plays on the famous Irish sense of fun, mischief, family and friendship
. Another small movie, lacking in Hollywood starpower, Waking Ned featured great performances from TV stars James Nesbitt and David Kelly.

    8. In The Name of The Father (1993) Hard-hitting, tough-to-watch Oscar-nominated movie about a smalltime Belfast thief wrongly convicted for a London bombing
. Based on the true story of Gerry Conlon, this Jim Sheridan must-see will be remembered for scenes of Conlon (Daniel Day-Lewis) with his dying father (Pete Postlethwaite), who finds himself falsely implicated in the pub bombing
. In every cinema I saw this gripping film, film fans sat in silence for minutes as the end credits rolled.

    9. Hear My Song (1991) Yet another charming sleeper movie all about the myth of reclusive singer Josef Locke, who lived in tax exile in Ireland
. Deliverance star Ned Beatty plays a Locke imposter who convinces a hapless promoter that he is the real deal
. The film cost less than $2 million to make and was shot in just six weeks - proof again that small can be beautiful!
    10. Circle of Friends (1995) Another charming little film that made the most of English actress Minnie Driver’s accent skills
. Set in 1950s Ireland, Driver plays lovestruck student Benny Hogan and embarks on a heartbreaking romance with cad-turned-nice guy Jack Foley, played by Chris O’Donnell
. Driver put on 30 pounds to play her heavy-set character
    .

ELVIS PRESLEY’s widow and daughter PRISCILLA and LISA MARIE have been lapping up Irish culture in the build up to St Patrick’s Day(17MAR07), singing and dancing at a bar in County Tipperary.
The pair are in the Emerald Isle as guests of German aristocrat GOTTFRIED HELNWEIN, who has a castle in the county - and they both stunned regulars at a traditional bar by joining in the singing and dancing.
A reveller tells the Sunday World newspaper, "They were spotted drinking at a bit of a hooley in the Halfway Bar near Ballymacarberry in County Tipperary, singing along to some of the tunes." Halfway Bar publican TONY CONDON confirms the reports saying, "Yes, they dropped in one night and seemed to have a good time."

  • O’DONNELL: ‘I’LL NEVER LEAVE MY IRISH HOMETOWN’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:29 am

Irish crooner DANIEL O’DONNELL has vowed to stay in remote Donegal until he dies, crediting his home village for his phenomenal success.
The 45-year-old housewives’ favourite has sold millions of albums, thanks to huge fan bases in Britain, Ireland and North America.
But he has never been tempted to move away from the village of Kincasslagh on Ireland’s Donegal shore - despite recently selling his home there.
O’Donnell insists he’s simply relocating to a smaller home, which he is currently designing.
He says, "The village of Kincasslagh where I grew up will always be home and I couldn’t turn my back on the old place.
"The reason I sold up in the first place is because that dream bungalow, beautiful as it is, was simply too big for the two of us, especially as (my wife) MAJELLA’s two children, SIOBHAN and MICHAEL, are both away at university and school.
"What we want is a smaller place to come home to which will be easier looked after."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:26 am

WESTLIFE singers SHANE FILAN and NICKY BYRNE were amazed when BRIAN McFADDEN quit the boyband, because he was throwing away his financial security.
McFadden left the Irish group to go solo in 2004, but his subsequent releases have failed to match the success of Westlife.
Filan says, "It was his decision to leave the band and we respect that 100 per cent, but… you’d be mad to leave Westlife, purely on a financial basis.
"But if you’re not happy in your personal life, then money doesn’t matter." Byrne adds, "When you see how happy we are, you do feel, `Jesus, why would you want to leave that?’ "We live amazing f**king lives, we see the world over, we perform constantly."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:23 am

The death of a close pal gave Irish folk legend MARY BLACK the impetus she needed to return to the studio after convincing herself her 1999 album SPEAKING WITH THE ANGEL would be her last.
The singer admits she quietly retired from making music because she couldn’t get inspired to write and record a new album for six years.
She reveals, "I was actually feeling that maybe this was a natural wind-down: `Maybe there isn’t going to be another album.’ I mean, we all have to hang up our boots at some stage." But Black’s unofficial retirement plans ended when songwriting pal NOEL BRAZIL died.
The singer has recorded many Brazil songs over the years and found herself returning to his music after his death.
She adds, "I thought, `There are still so many of his songs I’d love to sing.’ I was thinking, `Wouldn’t that be a lovely tribute to him.’" Black then turned her holiday home in County Kerry, Ireland into a makeshift studio and started recording her latest album FULL TIDE.
She tells folk music magazine Dirty Linen,, "The whole experience was spiritual almost, because it’s such a gorgeous place and it means so much to me."

  • ARTIST TURNS U2 COURT BATTLE INTO A NEW PAINTING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:20 am

Irish artist KEVIN SHARKEY has turned U2’s court battle with a former stylist into a new art piece.
The Irish rockers took LOLA CASHMAN to court last year (06), claiming she had stolen items from the band while she was working as their style adviser in the 1980s.
The band alleged Cashman took a Stetson hat belonging to frontman BONO, earrings and clothing.
In a ruling in Dublin’s High Court last year (06), a judge decreed Cashman had taken the items without permission and ordered her to pay all resulting legal fees.
But Sharkey, a former Irish TV presenter, has turned the tables in his new artpiece, depicting Cashman as the victim.
He tells the Irish Independent newspaper, "For me, it is much more than just vying for the underdog. Lola was David to U2’s Goliath, she could never win." The painter plans to use some of the money from the sale of his work to help pay off the reportedly bankrupt Cashman’s legal bills.
