Helen Mirren says she has not been invited to have lunch with Britain’s Queen Elizabeth.
The actress - who won an Oscar for her portrayal of the monarch in ‘The Queen’ - has denied reports she will dine with the queen at Buckingham Palace, along with the movie’s screenwriter Peter Morgan and director Stephen Frears.
The 61-year-old star is quoted in Britain’s Daily Express newspaper as saying: ‘There was some discussion of having lunch with her secretary but never the queen herself.
‘And if I did meet her, I wouldn’t tell you!’ Helen made the comments at an exclusive New York dinner party hosted by Harold Evans and Tina Brown last night (15.03.07).
The actress revealed she had met the queen on a previous occasion.
She said: ‘I met the queen very briefly, for about 20 seconds, at a polo match - the first and last polo match I’ve ever been to. I was invited to have tea with the queen, with about a thousand other people, and me and Chloë Sevigny were taken over to meet her.’ Helen personally wrote a letter to the queen to inform her that she would be playing her in the hit movie.
