Former GRATEFUL DEAD roadie PAUL WOODS is making headlines in America after embarking on a 3,500-mile (5,632-kilometre) trek to claim a home left to him by his late mum - on a lawnmower.
Woods set off on the trip from Alaska to Virginia back in 2005 but his adventure has only just come to light after well-wishers in Utah discovered who the lawnmower man was.
Woods is expected to reach the home he has inherited some time in 2009.

HOTEL RWANDA star DON CHEADLE will make his feature film directing debut with a biopic of jazz great MILES DAVIS.
The Oscar nominated star will also serve as a producer on the project.
DARRYL PORTER of Miles Davis Properties will also be involved as a producer and the filmmakers have secured music and life rights to the jazz star’s legacy.
Davis, who died in 1991, is considered one of the most influential jazz musicians from World War II on.
His recordings include SKETCHES OF SPAIN, KIND OF BLUE and BITCHES BREW.
Producer KAY LIBERMAN adds, "Miles pushed the envelope and was never satisfied and kept evolving."

JAY-Z and actress ROSIE PEREZ have ended their war of words after the WHITE MEN CAN’T JUMP star criticised the rap mogul for his verbal attack on one-time rival NAS.
Puerto Rican Perez admits she feared for her life after making her feelings known in a XXL magazine article, but now she and Jay-Z are friends again after a surprise meeting backstage at a Cirque Du Soleil show in Las Vegas.
Speaking on America’s JIMMY KIMMEL SHOW, the actress said, "He (Jay-Z) went below the belt by talking about Nas’ ex-wife. I think Jay-Z is better than that. The fallen R&B star, who is in the middle of a divorce with estranged wife WHITNEY HOUSTON, enjoyed a career comeback with TV show BEING BOBBY BROWN and now he hopes the reality format can help fix his love life.
The MY PREROGATIVE singer will play the field in new show DATING BOBBY BROWN, in which he’ll pick a girlfriend from 20 wannabe starlets who all want to spend quality time with him.
An insider reveals Brown has his own ideas about how to spice up the dating show: "Bobby believes the best way to win a man’s heart is through his stomach, so he’s planning to have the women cook for him while they parade around in thong bikinis." LATEST: Fallen Australian actor and pop star JASON DONOVAN has slammed reports he is planning to release a tell-all book detailing his romance with KYLIE MINOGUE.
A British tabloid claimed Donovan, who co-starred alongside Minogue on the Australian soap opera NEIGHBOURS, had received a $1.95 million (£1 million) advance to reveal the intimate details of their relationship.
The report quoted an unnamed publishing executive saying, "The chapters about Kylie are absolutely gripping and have every sexy detail about Kylie." But, though Donovan admits he has signed a book deal, he insists he doesn’t know how anyone has read extracts from it - because he hasn’t even started writing it yet.
Donovan also reveals that his reported fee for the project is greatly exaggerated: "Being paid a million pounds for my biography is a gross misrepresentation of the truth." The 38-year-old reveals his book will deal more with his battles with drugs and his efforts to resurrect his career.
He adds, "I’m proud of my past, I had a great time, I sang some great pop songs and I hope it’s not finished."

Hip-hop star SNOOP DOGG loves visiting England, because it means he can watch his favourite soccer team Manchester United in action.
The rapper is currently touring Europe with his pal SEAN ‘DIDDY’ COMBS, meaning he has plenty of opportunities to catch the Premiership team’s games during their current season.
He tells MTV, "Everybody knows I don’t like to discriminate against other teams but everyone knows me and Manchester United got a certain kind of love for each other.

Feminist activist and playwright EVE ENSLER is horrified by BRITNEY SPEARS and LINDSAY LOHAN’s penchant for going out without underwear, insisting they are pandering to male attention.
Ensler, who wrote the worldwide hit play THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES, is concerned for the young stars, who have both sought treatment in rehab recently.

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY’s estranged wife HEATHER MILLS could face legal action for trespassing after entering an English farm to highlight alleged animal cruelty.
The former model paid a late night visit to the farm in Somerset earlier this month (MAR07) as part of a campaign for vegetarian group Viva!.
But after learning of the illegal trip, owner MICHAEL UNDERHILL is threatening to sue Mills for trespassing and even alleges the party could have brought disease onto his land.
He says, "This is trespass, I intend to take legal action over this. We can’t just have people coming on to the farm whenever they choose.
"We have had some sickness in the piglets recently - these people could have brought disease onto the farm. They don’t know the harm they are causing." In the campaign footage of the pig farm, Mills accuses British chain store Marks & Spencer of buying meat from farms which use the narrow farrowing crates, and even uses the company’s own slogan in her attack.
She says, "What really got to me with the farrowing crate is the fact that they are mothers, they are breeding sows. They can’t move hardly at all, apart from one step back and forward. It’s so barbaric and inhumane.
"You can see how disgusting it is, the conditions they have to live in. It stinks in here, it is absolutely disgusting.
"This is not just torture - this is M&S torture." A spokesman for Marks & Spencer denied Mills’ claims saying, "M&S has leading animal welfare standards and has been recognised for these by both the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and Compassion in World Farming."

Oscar winner HALLE BERRY has dismissed reports she was a battered woman, insisting her physical battles with men were one-offs.

British soul star JOSS STONE has shown her gratitude to everyone who helped her with her new album - in a 7,000-word essay.
The 19-year-old released her third LP INTRODUCING JOSS STONE this week (12MAR07), but instead of listing the credits in her album sleeve as is traditional, she directed fans to her website where they can read a thank you note 12 pages long.

DREW BARRYMORE and HUGH GRANT are among the latest batch of celebrities to be warned they may have contracted liver disease Hepatitis A.
The stars have been alerted of the threat in the form of a letter from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
The warning comes after health officials were alerted to a sick member of celebrity chef WOLFGANG PUCK’s catering staff, who may have inadvertently infected guests at a party following the launch of new movie MUSIC & LYRICS on 7 February (07).
The letter, obtained by website TMZ.com, asks party guests to contact health bosses or doctors if they ate uncooked food served at the event.
The health officials list "Mini Potato Skins Bar: Sour Cream, Chives and Vermont Cheddar, Taco/Fajita Bar: Shredded Lettuce, Chopped Tomatoes, Shredded Cheese, Guacamole, and Sour Cream and 80’s Comfort Station: Peanut Butter Fluffer Nutters" among the potentially contaminated items.
SANDRA BULLOCK and ADAM BRODY, who were also among the guests at the party, have received the letter.
The latest health alert comes after BEYONCE KNOWLES and the supermodel stars of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue were urged to get health checks last month (FEB07) after attending another Puck party, which featured the unnamed Hepatitis A carrier among the catering staff.

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY’s estranged wife HEATHER MILLS has hit out at the one-sided media coverage surrounding her divorce battle with the former BEATLE, insisting the press are out to "destroy" her reputation.
The former model - who previously (07MAR07) accused several British newspapers of "misreporting" the divorce - is convinced there is a media campaign to discredit her.
She says, "There is a huge agenda behind trying to destroy me and put me down. I’m not a publicity seeker. I haven’t gone round promoting things to finance my own pockets.

The actress and her eldest child MADDOX - who she adopted from Cambodia in 2002 - arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday (14MAR07) to complete the paperwork to adopt three-and-half-year-old PAX THIEN today (15MAR07).
The actress, five-year-old Maddox and her new son are expected to spend a week in Vietnam awaiting the boy’s new passport application, before returning to her partner BRAD PITT and their two daughters, adopted ZAHARA MARLEY, two; and baby SHILOH NOUVEL, 10 months’, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The star’s adviser on international affairs, TREVOR NEILSON, says, "Brad very much wanted to be there but is under contract working on a film in Los Angeles and as a result couldn’t go." Jolie’s representative confirms she took custody of the boy from the Tam Binh orphanage earlier today.

GREY’S ANATOMY actor ISAIAH WASHINGTON has donated $25,000 (£12,820) to a computer animation project that aims to detail the plight of Africans in the Trans-Atlantic slave trade.
The project - directed by Professors JOSEPH OPALA and GARY CHATELAIN of Virginia’s James Madison University - focuses on an 18th century British slave castle on Bunce Island in the Republic of Sierra Leone, from where African captives were taken to North America.
And Washington, whose ancestors hail from West African country, hopes the project will help to educate younger generations about the slave trade.
He says, "The stories of innumerable Sierra Leoneans that were forced into slavery have yet to be extensively told.
"I believe this project will begin to shed some much-needed light on the region, both past and present." His donation was made through the nonprofit organisations Friends of Sierra Leone and the Gondobay Manga Foundation, which Washington founded last year (06).

OPRAH WINFREY has denied allegations her newly-founded school in South Africa is too strict - insisting it provides students with a "safe" and "structured" environment to learn in.
The media mogul set up the $40 million (£20.4 million) Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa in January (07) in the small town of Henley-on-Klip, south of Johannesburg, with the aim to give 152 girls from deprived backgrounds a high quality education.
But parents have recently (MAR07) complained of the rigid rules and regulations which prevent the girls from using mobile phones and sending emails during the week. They have also been banned from bringing food in for the girls and can only visit if they are approved by staff at least two weeks in advance, according to TMZ.com.
The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy Foundation has dismissed these allegations, stating that while parents are discouraged from buying the students junk food, they are not prohibited.
A statement released by the Foundation says, "Our goal is to protect the health, welfare and well-being of the students at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy. As with other boarding schools, we provide a structured, safe and nurturing environment in which the girls can learn and develop."

CASEY AFFLECK’s advertisement for animal rights campaigners People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) has been rejected from all major TV outlets, because it is "too graphic".
Executives for entertainment channels including MTV, E! and the TV Guide Channel have all turned down the commercial because horrific images of slaughterhouses were deemed inappropriate for their viewers, according to The Scoop.
In the advert, Affleck says, "When people ask me why I don’t eat meat or any other animal products, I say, ‘Because they’re unhealthy, and they’re the product of a violent and inhumane industry.’" PETA have posted the footage on their website.
