The rock superstar had tickets for Winehouse’s performance at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire, which the singer cancelled at the last minute after claiming to be ill.
It has since been claimed Winehouse embarked on a drinking binge after splitting from boyfriend ALEX JONES-DONELLY.
A spokesperson for Sir Elton John says, "He got a call at the last minute to say it was cancelled. He was disappointed. He lives around the corner so he went for dinner in the end but he would have liked to go to the gig."

DAME HELEN MIRREN can’t celebrate her success like she once did because she no longer likes the taste of alcohol.
The Oscar-winning actress admits she’s a little distressed that she no longer drinks like she did in her youth.
She says, "I just don’t like it anymore. I’d love to be able to drink.
"It’s not because I’m in AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) or something. I’ve just lost my taste for it, which is very upsetting." But not all alcohol is a turn off for the British star: "I love champagne, so I buy the odd bottle of that."

ELIZABETH HURLEY and ARUN NAYAR’s Indian wedding celebrations were marred yesterday (09MAR07) when a fight broke out between reporters and security guards.
The scuffle kicked off when journalists tried to prevent the couple’s car entering the Mekrangarh fort venue in Jodhpur following their nearby marriage ceremony.
Reporters then allegedly ran past security and followed Hurley and Nayar’s vehicle into the compound, before forcibly being removed.
During the fracas, onlookers claim a security guard slapped a female journalist while another female reporter is said to have slapped one of the guards.
Media had been banned from the couple’s wedding events - it is thought a UK magazine has bought exclusive photography rights.
Hurley and Nayar had earlier exchanged vows in a traditional ceremony at the Umaid Bhawan Palace hotel which saw them exchange garlands of red roses and orange marigolds, before parading around a ritual fire seven times.
The epic nuptials, which began with a wedding in England on 2 March (07), have spanned two continents and five days of non-stop partying. They have been so lavish, even by Indian standards, the local press have dubbed the event "The Big Fat Indian Wedding".

Troubled pop star ROBBIE WILLIAMS is dating Swedish singer LISA LOVBRAND, according to reports.
The pair were spotted leaving a Los Angeles nightclub this week (begs05MAR07), following Williams’ stay in rehab in Arizona for addictions to caffeine and prescription drugs.
Lovbrand refuses to confirm a romance, but confesses they are close and she is attracted to him.
She says, "He’s a sexy man.
"It was a big surprise to see him. I’d read he’d gone to rehab.
"He seems much stronger now. He was happy and very positive. We’ve known each other for years. We met at a restaurant in LA five or six years ago through some friends. Since then we’ve met over the years at parties.
"He told me about new songs he’s working on. We talked about getting together and writing some songs."

Celebrity couple DAVID and VICTORIA BECKHAM have donated £600,000 ($1.17 million) to childrens’ charities in the last four years.
Twenty worthy causes are helped by the Victoria And David Beckham Children’s Charity, including he United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), which has received a grant of £100,000 ($195,000).
Much of the money has been raised at the couple’s spectacular celebrity parties.
Victoria says of the charity, "Both David and I love children and we love to help."

British pop superstar ROBBIE WILLIAMS has been battling addictions since he was 19.
The 33-year-old recently completed a stay in a rehab clinic in Arizona to tackle his addictions to caffeine and prescription medicine.
And he claims his demons date back to his time in boyband TAKE THAT.

TERRENCE HOWARD snubbed the Oscars because he hates being forced to smile for an army of photographers.
The former Academy Award nominee decided he’d prefer to watch the ceremony on TV in New York.
He says, "You see people learning to smile on cue, to laugh on cue and to wear what they’re supposed to wear. You start off as a celebrated artist and you end up as a celebrity. I don’t want to be a celebrity.
"When I was nominated, I found myself going to the parties I was supposed to be at, instead of being where I wanted to be.
"That’s why I didn’t go to the Oscars (this year). I went to New York and I watched the Oscars on television." But Howard insists he does have regrets about not attending the Oscars: "I wished I was there because it reminded me of being the artist and desire to get there."

Actress/singer COURTNEY LOVE is being sued for allegedly failing to pay a California rehab clinic her $181,000 (£92,820) bill.
The former HOLE star was ordered into the Beau Monde treatment centre by a judge after violating probation conditions. She arrived there in August 2005.
Beau Monde officials claim Love paid $10,000 (£5,130) on entering the facility but have had to repeatedly ask the 42-year-old to settle her outstanding bill.
The clinic has filed a suit against Love at Orange County Superior Court. It states Love stayed at Beau Monde for three months and adds: "Although demanded multiple times by plaintiff, orally and in writing, none of the balance stated has been paid."

Police investigating the cause of ANNA NICOLE SMITH’s death last month (FEB07) have uncovered "significant" new evidence - causing the coroner to delay releasing his findings.
The development comes as Smith’s bodyguard MAURICE BRIGHTHAUPT claimed the star’s boyfriend and lawyer HOWARD K. STERN was behaving "highly strange" in the hours leading to her death in a Florida hotel room.
A police spokesman says, "This is not delayed evidence, this is additional evidence that has come to light during the course of the investigation." Coroner DR JOSHUA PERPER adds, "This was unexpected. But this case has more turns than anything I could have imagined.
Smith was found dead in the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida on 8 February (07).

A newspaper source spotted Winehouse drinking in a hotel near the venue on Thursday, when she was meant to be onstage.
The party-loving star has cited Jones-Donelly as a calming influence on her in the past.
