Palm tree peace
A Bangladeshi man seeking a quieter life is living in a palm tree.
Carpenter-and-writer Salim Hossen Gaus, 25, from the south-west Jessore district, winches himself 30 metres to a homemade platform and listens to the sounds of nature every day.
He said: "I spend four to five hours minimum in the tree reading and writing, listening to the birds chirping. The isolation is very pleasing. I don’t get any disturbance from people and no-one can distract me from my literary works." Villagers initially ridiculed Gaus’ palm tree house, but now many are asking for their own tree-top hideaway.
Gaus said: "They used to call me mad but many people have become enthusiasts. Now they ask me to build the same kind of tree house for them too."
