COMBS ORDERED TO NOT SING DIDDY LYRIC IN UK
A British judge has ordered rap mogul SEAN ‘DIDDY’ COMBS to not refer to himself as ‘Diddy’ in a song lyric when he performs at Wembley Arena in London next month (APR07).
In September 2006, Combs settled a lawsuit with UK musician RICHARD ‘DIDDY’ DEARLOVE over using the Diddy moniker out of court. He paid damages of £10,000 ($19,500) and agreed to trade as ‘P Diddy’ in the UK in order to avoid any confusion with Dearlove - who has been trading under the name ‘Diddy’ since 1992.
But Combs refers to himself as ‘Diddy’ in a song called THE FUTURE on his most recent album PRESS PLAY. Combs goes on to encourage the listener to download his music from iTunes, breaching his previous agreement, London’s High Court heard.
The rapper’s lawyers confirmed Combs will omit the lyric when he performs alongside SNOOP DOGG during a British tour in April.
However, MR JUSTICE KITCHIN also ordered a full trial to assess whether there have been further breaches of the ‘Diddy’ agreement.
