BROWN RELEASED FROM JAIL
LATEST: Troubled singer BOBBY BROWN was released from a Massachusetts jail on Wednesday night (28FEB07) after his brother paid his child support bill.
The DON’T BE CRUEL hitmaker, 38, was arrested in Attleboro on Sunday night (25FEB07) for failing to pay two months worth of child support to his ex-girlfriend KIM WARD, mother of his children LaPRINCIA, 17; and BOBBY JR, 14.
On Sunday, Brown was taken to the Norfolk County Correctional Center where he was ordered to remain for 30 days, until his sibling TOMMY arrived yesterday with a cheque for $19,000 (£9,743).
Later today (01MAR07), Brown will appear in court to tell Judge PAULA CAREY how he will raise funds for the March (07) payment of $5,500 (£2,820).
The singer’s lawyer PHAEDRA PARKS admitted Brown is struggling to work at the moment and accused the court of treating the star’s badly because of his celebrity status.
Parks says, "It’s unfortunate he finds himself in this situation. But the court hasn’t exactly cut Bobby any breaks. I daresay there are a million guys out there who are a few months behind in their child-support payments who have not been treated the way Bobby has been treated." An arrest warrant was previously issued for the star in October (06) when he failed to attend a child support court hearing, but he swiftly paid $11,000 (£5,640) fees to avoid arrest.
In June 2004, Brown was sentenced to 90 days jail after failing behind child support payments for three months. However, Brown paid $15,000 (£7,700) and the sentence was suspended.
Brown is currently in the middle of divorcing superstar WHITNEY HOUSTON after 14 years of marriage.
