KIEFER SUTHERLAND has discovered he has a long-lost half-brother thanks to an obituary in a Montreal, Canada newspaper.
Artist LOUISE SCOTT’s family revealed all about the parentage of her son JOHN in a recent Montreal Gazette memorial to the Canadian, who died on 7 February (07).
The obituary mentioned her son’s father is "the actor DONALD SUTHERLAND" Scott’s cousin.
Friends tell US tabloid the Globe that Sutherland rarely spoke of his lovechild and Scott gave her son the last name of her longtime lover FRANK O’RIORDAN.
One family pal says, "It would be so great if Donald would reach out to his son John. Maybe they could develop a father-son relationship - and Kiefer could get to know the brother he’s probably never seen."

LINDSAY LOHAN’s publicist has fired back at the mother of a young fan after the 40-something New Yorker alleged the MEAN GIRLS star was driving drunk after a Hollywood party.
ELLEN MORRISSEY has gone public with her nightmare Lohan encounter, claiming the troubled actress reeked of alcohol as she sped off, almost hitting the mother and her daughter ERIN, 13, after the teenager asked to have her photo taken with the star.
Speaking to America’s National Enquirer, Morrissey recalls spotting Lohan outside celebrity hang-out the Hotel Roosevelt at 2.30am on 18 February (07), when the actress was on a break from rehab.
She ran up to Lohan and begged her to pose for a picture with her daughter, a huge fan.
Morrissey says, "Lindsay was holding a glass of clear liquid with a wedge of lemon in it, and she seemed to slur when she spoke. She also appeared to stagger to her car." After initially agreeing to pose for the snapshot, Lohan then sped off in her Mercedes, prompting the Morrisseys to jump out of the way.
But Lohan’s representatives are playing the incident down, stating, "Ellen Morrissey should be more concerned about her daughter being up at 2.30am than about Lindsay."

Pop star MARIAH CAREY insists she will only sell her luxury Manhattan apartment to a fashionable "diva" because they would truly appreciate her opulent closets.
The New York City triplex was featured on the MTV home series CRIBS and was specially designed to accommodate Carey’s massive wardrobe.
She tells Hello! magazine, "I have four closets. There’s one for lingerie, a shoe closet I designed with the architect MARIO BUATTA, and a pretty area for clothes with moving wardrobes and a bunch of shelves where I do fittings with stylists. The closets are a big part of my life, it sounds obsessive, but they are pretty fabulous."

JENNIFER LOPEZ’s husband MARC ANTHONY has been embarrassed by a photo he posed for with a photographer charged with heroin possession and child pornography.
The candid snapshot, taken backstage at a New York concert Anthony headlined in 2004, is being used to prove the Latino singer had a relationship with photographer MICHAEL STAR, who is set to stand trial in the US after fleeing to Colombia.
The picture has been posted on Latino newspaper El Diario’s website as part of a story suggesting Anthony was a friend of Star’s.
But even Star’s closest friends insist the photographer merely used Anthony’s name and the photo to help him peddle his sick trade.
ROSA SANABRIA admits the snapper used his so-called relationship with Anthony to lure young girls to his photo studio.
She tells the National Enquirer, "This guy is a monster and a sick person.
It’s awful for Marc to be dragged into this." To make matters worse for the singer, Sanabria reveals Star will attempt to call Anthony to testify on his behalf when his trial comes to court.

Despite the couple’s rocky two-year marriage, a source close to Federline tells American publication Us Weekly that once Spears recovers, "Kevin wants to get back together with her.
"He is her biggest supporter." On 24 February (07), just three days after the star checked into rehab, Federline, Spears’ mother LYNNE, and the couple’s young sons, SEAN, 17 months and JAYDEN, six months, dropped by the facility for a two-hour visit.
The source adds, "It was a very emotional and happy family moment."

BEYONCE KNOWLES has been slammed by anti-smoking groups in Australia for appearing in an ad for her world tour posing with an old-fashioned cigarette holder.
Australian organisation Quit recently sent letters to the country’s government seeking the ad’s removal from billboards and newspapers.
Action on Smoking and Health director JOHN BANZHAF also slams the star, telling American publication Us Weekly, "The objection is to the association of glamour and sexiness with smoking.
"I hope Beyonce realises it’s wrong and condemns it." Meanwhile, the RING THE ALARM singer is also under fire from animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) because of another publicity shot that shows her alongside live alligators.

STEEL MAGNOLIAS co-stars SHIRLEY MacLAINE and OLYMPIA DUKAKIS are set to reunite for the black comedy POOR THINGS.
The feature film, based on true events, revolves around two con-artist women who befriend and murder homeless men in order to collect their life insurance policies.
British filmmaker ASH BARON COHEN, a cousin of BORAT star SACHA BARON COHEN, has signed on to direct.
The script was inspired by real news events and crime scandals surrounding recent arrests and convictions of elderly women for various "grandma gang" exploits, which have included scams and cons involving drug sales, insurance fraud and murder.
The film will begin shooting in May (07) in Los Angeles or New Mexico.

A quirky opera based on JERRY SPRINGER’s rough-and-ready TV talk show will make its debut in America this month (MAR07) after securing a run in Las Vegas.
The Olivier Award-winning musical was a smash hit in London when it opened in 2001; it will preview at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on 17 and 18 March (07), as a benefit for HIV/AIDS charities.
Actor ARTIE ANDERSON will lead the cast, as Springer, while members of the casts of Vegas shows MAMMA MIA and PHANTOM OF THE OPERA will play audience members and guests.

The creative team and original stars from cult movie LA CONFIDENTIAL are in talks to reteam for a sequel to the movie, going head-to-head with another sequel starring GEORGE CLOONEY.
Director JOE CARNAHAN is also directing a follow-on to the film based on author JAMES ELLROY’s book WHITE JAZZ.
According to entertainment website TMZ.com, another sequel is being planned by the film’s original director CURTIS HANSON.
Hanson’s version wouldn’t rely on the plot of White Jazz and would instead pick-up where LA Confidential ended.
The sequel would reunite original stars RUSSELL CROWE, GUY PEARCE and KIM BASINGER, who won a Best Supporting Oscar for her role in LA Confidential.

The Oscar-winning Best Foreign Film is to be remade as a Hollywood movie.
German espionage drama THE LIVES OF OTHERS will be revamped as an English-language film with moviemakers SYDNEY POLLACK and ANTHONY MINGHELLA coming together for the project.
Pollack tells trade paper Daily Variety, "We would just desperately love for that film to be something that reaches more people.
"We haven’t gotten locked into making it yet, but we’re working hard at trying to get it going." The film’s writer/director FLORIAN HENCKEL VON DONNERSMARCK claimed Oscar gold on Sunday night (25FEB07).

Actress CHLOE SEVIGNY is still traumatised by her controversial fellatio scene opposite VINCENT GALLO in THE BROWN BUNNY - because everyone seems to have an opinion about it without seeing the film.
The BOYS DON’T CRY star hit the headlines when the movie was shown at the Cannes Film Festival in France in 2003 and film fans questioned her decision to perform the unsimulated sex act on her ex-boyfriend.
The film was largely a flop and Sevigny’s agents at the William Morris Agency dropped her as a client upon its release.
Now, almost four years after the controversy, Sevigny admits she still has moments when she wishes she had never made the movie.
She says, "I seem to question myself every day why I crossed the line in The Brown Bunny, but I really believed in the director (Gallo) as an artist.
"I guess I just thought, ‘I could go to this extreme once,’ but perhaps it was the wrong choice. I’m not gonna beat myself up over it anymore. I think perhaps if it had come out at a different time people would’ve reacted to it differently.
"Making it for me was not difficult but the reaction from the public has been very difficult for me to handle. I think a lot of people talk about it without having seen it and that’s part of the problem."

US Republican Senator JOHN McCAIN announced he will stand as candidate for President of the United States in 2008 during an appearance on the LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN last night (28FEB07).
McCain said although he was announcing his candidacy, a more formal announcement will be made next month (APR07).
He told Letterman, "The last time we were on this program, I’m sure you remember everything very clearly that we say, but you asked me if I would come back on this show if I was going to announce.
"I am announcing that I will be a candidate for President of the United States." He added jokingly, "This is the announcement, you drag this out as long as you can. You know what I mean? You don’t just have one rendition. You’ve got to go over and over.
"This is the announcement preceding the formal announcement!"

The touching note reads, "My dearest son Daniel, you were my rock; you were the only one who could keep me solid. Why God took you away from me I do not now understand. Perhaps some day I will.
"I wish he would have taken me instead. Now you’re gone and I don’t know how Mommy’s gonna make it without you. I will come home to you. Your mother, always and forever." Meanwhile, Stern is forging a new friendship with the photographer who is battling him for paternity of Anna Nicole’s baby daughter - after the two feuding fathers came to an agreement about funeral guests.
Stern reveals LARRY BIRKHEAD gave him part of his allocation of guests at the funeral.
He says, "He has been co-operative with me in allowing me to use some of the people that he would have been allocated… For that I’m grateful."

MARK SPOELSTRA, a folk and blues performer who played with BOB DYLAN, has died.
He was 66.
Spoelstra died of pancreatic cancer on Sunday (25FEB07) at his home in Sacramento, California.
He became friends with Bob Dylan and the two performed together at New York City coffee houses and clubs in the 1960s.
Dylan reminisced about their friendship in his 2004 memoir, CHRONICLES, VOL.1 and included Spoelstra in the 2005 documentary NO DIRECTION HOME.
Spoelstra recorded two albums of traditional blues and folk songs for Folkway Records before being signed by Elektra Records.
His 1964 he released FIVE AND TWENTY QUESTIONS and that, along with his next album STATE OF MIND, reflected the anti-war political stance he had taken in music.
Spoelstra performed occasionally in his final years and recorded a new CD, OUT OF MY HANDS, in 2002.
