ROCKER BILLY THORPE DIES
Australian rock legend BILLY THORPE has died after suffering a heart attack. He was 60.
The singer collapsed after complaining of chest pains at his home in Sydney.
He passed away in the early hours of this morning (28FEB07) after being rushed to the nearby St Vincent’s Public Hospital.
Thorpe’s manager says, "He woke at 1am feeling terrible. Shortly after that he had a massive heart attack, the paramedics were called to the house, they worked very hard in hospital.
"In the next 24 hours, the family will make a statement with details of funeral services and everything." A public memorial service will be held on Sunday (04MAR07) in Sydney.
Thorpe was born in Britain, before relocating to Australia as a boy in the 1950s.
In the 1960s, he scored a series of hits with his band THE AZTECS, including POISON IVY and MASHED POTATO.
He is survived by his wife LYNNE, and daughters RUSTY and LAUREN.
