Honorary Oscar recipient ENNIO MORRICONE was incredibly moved when CELINE DION sang a new song for him at the Academy Awards last night (25FEB07).
Morricone received a prize for his lifetime achievement in scoring films and Dion debuted the song I KNEW I LOVED YOU during the tribute.
He explains Dion’s performance "Gave me immense pleasure. She said (at first), ‘You know, I don’t know if I’m going to be capable because I’m feeling very moved myself.’" The veteran composer claims one of his most treasured possessions is a record of Dion singing the theme from ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA.
When asked which of his famous scores was his favourite he added, "It’s like asking a father if he has a favourite child. I never answer that question!"

Lesbian rocker MELISSA ETHERIDGE agonized over whether it was appropriate to kiss her wife at the Oscars - because she isn’t fond of public displays of affection.

"She was the one who said, ‘Just write what you feel,’ when I was going, ‘Well, how do you write about global warming?’" Etheridge admits her Oscar win gave her the perfect opportunity to thank her partner on a grand scale for helping her battle cancer.
The rocker adds, "She meant so much to me, and she saved my life."

Former CULTURE CLUB lead singer BOY GEORGE was furious after landing in Australia for a celebrity DJ gig only to find out the airline had lost his prized record collection.
The star arrived in Brisbane on Saturday afternoon (24FEB07) from Auckland, New Zealand and was informed that his record collection had failed to arrive along with him.
The singer was in town to DJ at new club The Met and was livid when customs officials admitted his valuable albums had been left behind in New Zealand.
The furious 45-year-old was overheard telling officials, "You’ve got to be joking!" when the blunder was revealed.
According to Sydney’s Daily Telegraph, the panicked star made an emergency dash to a local record store, where he quickly bought up enough material to get through his gig.

Oscar-winning actress WHOOPI GOLDBERG has declined an invitation to visit the home of her ancestors - because of her fear of flying.
The Hollywood star - who has not been on an aeroplane in over 20 years recently had her DNA tested to trace her African roots and found she was descended from two tribes in the small state of Guinea-Bissau, western Africa.
But despite receiving an official letter from their tourism ministry addressed to "Your excellency Hoppy Goldberg" - she cannot overcome her phobia.

Oscar-winning director FLORIAN HENCKEL VON DONNERSMARCK owes much of his success to California Governor ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER - because the Austrian taught him that nothing is impossible.
The German moviemaker won Oscar gold last night (25FEB07) when his movie THE LIVES OF OTHERS landed the Best Foreign Film prize at the Academy Awards, and, after thanking Schwarzenegger in his acceptance speech, von Donnersmarck continued to coo about his hero backstage at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.
He said, "He just seems to me like the ultimate embodiment of the fact you can just achieve anything that you dream of.
"He really inspired me as a child; I remember the first time that I saw a picture of (Schwarzenegger film) CONAN THE BARBARIAN and it was a drawing, like a painted cover in a video store.
"I thought, ‘Oh my God, isn’t that terrible that people can only look like that in paintings.’ I went into that videostore and I looked at the back of it (video) and there was a real picture of the photograph - and he (Schwarzenegger) looked even more amazing than that painting.
"I’ve always been fascinated with him."

Actor COLIN FIRTH has condemned the British government for deporting 40 Congo nationals on a chartered flight today (26FEB07).

He was working at a military hospital on an army base when President LAURENT KABILA was assassinated, and was thrown into jail for refusing to administer lethal doses of morphine to a number of officers on the base. His brother bribed a prison guard and he escaped to Kenya before coming to England.
Firth adds of his case, "I find this incredibly painful to see how we just dismiss the most desperate people in our society. It just makes me so furious… It plays to the tabloids, to the middle-England xenophobes."

LATEST: Oscar-winning filmmaker JAMES CAMERON’s latest screen project has come under attack from archaeologists and clergymen in the Holy Land, who insist his so-called "evidence" that JESUS was not resurrected from the dead is unfounded.
The TITANIC director has produced new documentary THE LOST TOMB OF JESUS in which it is alleged Jesus was buried instead of walking out of his tomb. He bases his hypothesis on three coffins he claims are those of Jesus, his mother MARY and MARY MAGDALENE, which were found in a southern Jerusalem neighbourhood.
However, AMOS KLONER, the first archaeologist to examine the site, insists, "They (producers) just want to get money for it.
"It was an ordinary middle-class Jerusalem burial cave. The names on the caskets are the most common names found among Jews at the time." ATTALLAH HANA, a Greek Orthodox clergyman in Jerusalem, adds, "(The documentary) contradicts the religious principles and the historic and spiritual principles that we hold tightly to." The Lost Tomb of Christ airs on the Discovery Channel next month (04MAR07).

Arthur filed an emergency motion on Friday (23FEB07) asking Seidlin to reconsider his decision, but he declined this morning, insisting he wanted to preserve Smith’s dignity by staging the funeral as quickly as possible.
Arthur’s lawyer, ROBERTA G. MANDEL, reveals his client is now considering taking the case to the state Supreme Court.
Speaking outside court he said, "This mother is a mother who deserves the right to bury her child. The trial court treated her as though she was nothing."

Producer DANGER MOUSE has dismissed comparisons with hip-hop mogul TIMBALAND, insisting he’s too busy with his own projects to team up with other music stars.
Timbaland was recently creditted with relaunching NELLY FURTADO’s career and has also produced tracks for BJORK and JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, but GNARLS BARKLEY and GORILLAZ star Danger Mouse isn’t ready for more celebrity collaborations just yet.

G-Unit producer SHA MONEY XL, who has already produced the score for both 50 CENT: BULLETPROOF and FAST & FURIOUS: TOKYO DRIFT, will be responsible for the creation of seven exclusive on FreeStyle Street Basketball, as well as the production of the Lloyd Banks and Young Hot Rod tracks.
Banks says, "I jumped at the chance to create an exclusive song for FreeStyle Street Basketball, especially since Hip-Hop has always been relevant in the street basketball culture.
"I’m always playing video games so to have the opportunity to record the theme song for a game is crazy."

Acclaimed cellist and conductor MSTISLAV ROSTROPOVICH has picked up one of Russia’s top honours from President VLADIMIR PUTIN.
The leader signed a decree earlier today (26FEB07) awarding Rostropovich with the Order of Service to the Fatherland, First Degree, for his "outstanding contribution to the development of world music and many years of creative activity".
Putin has made no secret of his admiration for the 79-year-old musician - the concerned statesman visited him in hospital in Moscow earlier this month (06FEB07) after he was admitted with an undisclosed illness.
Rostropovich went into exile from the Soviet Union in 1974 after housing dissident writer ALEXANDER SOLZHENITSYN for four years.
