JIM CARREY has turned iPod DJ to give movie fans a taste of what he listens to when he’s at the gym, hiking or in the car.
The movie star, who had a special hardcore industrial soundtrack pumped into his iPod to help him prepare for disturbing scenes in new movie NUMBER 23, admits his usual musical choices are much lighter.
Compiling 23 of his favourite tunes, Carrey highlights THE BROTHERS JOHNSON’s 1970s classic STRAWBERRY LETTER and NIRVANA’s BREED among his top tunes.
Of Strawberry Letter, the actor says, "It makes you wanna be on roller skates, with a disco ball," while Breed makes him feel like "pummeling your foe’s face into blood soup." Carrey has counted down his top 23 tunes as part of the heavy promotional push surrounding his dark new movie - about a man obsessed with the number, which hit US cinemas yesterday.
Other highlights on his hit list include CLOSE TO ME by THE CURE, which makes Carrey feel "like I’m being held down and tickled," and SIA’s BREATHE ME, which he states is one of his girlfriend JENNY McCARTHY’s favourite tunes, adding, "Jenny made me put this song on the list, but I love it too." Other songs include THE WHITE STRIPES’ FELL IN LOVE WITH A GIRL, FLAMING LIPS’ DO YOU REALIZE and ROUND MIDNIGHT by jazz great JOHN COLTRANE.

Former SPICE GIRLS star VICTORIA BECKHAM and her soccer player husband DAVID BECKHAM will get a taste of Hollywood at its wildest when they attend the Oscars parties on Sunday (25FEB07).
Beckham, who is househunting in Los Angeles - ahead of the couple’s move to California this summer (07), flew in to Tinseltown earlier this week (22FEB07) and her husband is expected to join her this weekend.
The couple will be guests of honour at pal ELTON JOHN’s postOscars party.
Elton says, "They’ll definitely be there."

LEONARDO DiCAPRIO was so committed to making cult movie ROMEO + JULIET he flew coach to Australia for no money just to shoot promotional scenes with director BAZ LUHRMANN.
The TITANIC star treated the week-long trip as a holiday and paid for six pals to join him Down Under while he shot scenes intended to convince 20th Century Fox executives to make the movie.
Luhrmann reveals, "People don’t realise Leonardo had to come to Australia for no money. He wasn’t paid." The film was eventually made on location in Mexico.

LOST co-creator and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: III director JJ ABRAMS is in talks to acquire the rights to horror writer STEPHEN KING’s novel THE DARK TOWER.
King has been keen to keep the project away from Hollywood hands but the writer is reportedly a huge fan of Abrams’ desert island drama - and is thrilled about working with the director.
According to US magazine Entertainment Weekly, Abrams will team up with his Lost co-creator DAMON LINDELHOF on the project. Lindelhof is slated to pen the screenplay.

Oscar nominated moviemaker GUILLERMO DEL TORO created the magical creatures in his hit film PAN’S LABYRINTH when he was a child - they visited him at night.
The HELLBOY director admits he had a "spiritual" childhood and many of the fauns, goats and creatures he created in Pan’s Labyrinth once showed up in his imagination at bedtime.
He explains, "I would be visited by imaginary things. As a kid, I actually saw a goat creature, a faun, coming out from behind my grandmother’s dresser. I saw it every night at midnight.
"The hand of the creature would come first, then I would see half the face a goat’s face - but the hand would be a man’s. Then the goat leg would come out, and I would start screaming.
"It was almost like a ritualistic nightmare." He reveals hauntings in all his cult films were inspired by his own bedroom nightmares: "The key scenes in CRONOS and THE DEVIL’S BACKBONE happened to children in bed."

Australian fashion designer HEIDI MIDDLETON is being treated for breast cancer just days after giving birth to her seccond child.
The Sass & Bide designer, 35, has revealed she had a tumour in her breast removed after the birth of her daughter, ELKE BAY PLOWMAN, last week (15FEB07).
Middleton and partner SARAH-JANE CLARKE recently showcased their latest fashion collection at the New York Fashion Week.

SAMUEL L. JACKSON worked so hard to learn to play the guitar for his new role as a blues guitarist in BLACK SNAKE MOAN, the instrument has replaced golf as his number one obsession.
The actor hasn’t been hitting the links and courses as much after discovering his new passion for playing the blues.
And he has DAVID LETTERMAN’s resident THE LATE SHOW guitarist FELICIA COLLINS to blame for sparking his musical interests.
He explains, "I was backstage at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony watching U2 perform and this voice comes up behind me and says, `You should play a bluesman in a movie. Let me teach you how to play guitar.’ "It was Felicia Collins. At that time I hadn’t even heard about Black Snake Moan, so I kind of laughed and said, `Yeah right.’ She gave me her numbers and then I got Black Snake the next week.
"I went to the Academy Awards, and, in the gift basket, there was a Gibson studio model guitar to order, that they make for you. I had the guitar made and came back to New York and Felicia became my guitar teacher." Jackson’s lessons continued on the set of SNAKES ON A PLANE, when the film’s prop master offered to help out, and, by the time the PULP FICTION star hit the set of Black Snake Moan, he really could play the blues.
Now his love of playing has turned into a bit of an obsession: "I had no guitars when I started, and now I have seven, so I pretty much run around with a guitar everywhere I go."

The brains behind a leading nude celebrity website have declared that actresses who bare all in movies are more likely to win Oscar gold.
Compilers of celebrity skin website MrSkin.com have carried out an extensive study linking stars who get naked to triumphs at the Academy Awards.
And the web detectives have determined that actresses who appear nude onscreen are "scientifically more likely" to be named Best Actress.
The site’s findings include: each of the 2007 Best Actress nominees has bared all in at least one movie, and every single Best Actress winner since 1988 has gone naked on camera, many in the very films for which they were honoured.

AL VIOLA, the man who played the haunting mandolin on THE GODFATHER soundtrack has died after a battle with cancer. He was 87.
Viola became an in-demand guitar player in Hollywood after World War Two and went on to feature on more than 500 albums, including classic releases by longtime collaborator FRANK SINATRA.
The guitarist performed with Sinatra for 25 years and Ol’ Blue Eyes even paid tribute to his musician pal on record, singling him out for praise during a 1962 Paris, France concert, which was released as an album in 1994.
Viola also performed behind Sinatra on standards like MY WAY and NEW YORK, NEW YORK.
As well as playing on The Godfather soundtrack, Viola also performed on soundtracks for BLAZING SADDLES and WEST SIDE STORY.
He played his final show at a Sherman Oaks, California jazz club last month (JAN07).

Australian rocker JIMMY BARNES is recovering in hospital in Sydney after undergoing heart surgery.
The CHANGE OF HEART singer had open-heart surgery on Thursday (22FEB07) to fix a faulty aortic valve, which he has had since birth.
The defiant rock star has booked concerts in April (07) to give himself a goal during his recovery.
