Smashing record
An Australian man has broken the world record for smashing watermelons with his head.
John Allwood, 29, head-butted 40 of the large fruits at the biennial Chinchilla Watermelon Festival in Queensland to claim the title of world champion.
Chinchilla, three hours west of Queensland’s capital, Brisbane, is Australia’s watermelon capital, growing 25 per cent of the country’s crop.
They celebrate by holding a Watermelon Festival every two years.
As well as watermelon smashing, there is also watermelon skiing, watermelon sliding and a largest watermelon contest.
