Singer JEWEL has slammed reports she is engaged to her rodeo-star boyfriend TY MURRAY.
Although the couple have been dating for eight years, they have no plans to tie the knot.
She tells American publication Us Weekly, "We’re not engaged." Jewel, real name, JEWEL KILCHER, insists she’s content with the couple’s current status, adding, "I’m really happy!" She says, "Ty is a stand-up guy in a world of flakes. He acts just like JOHN WAYNE!" Despite his tough exterior, she claims he does have a softer side.
She explains, "He writes me love letters, which nobody would know about him." Murray adds, "She’s the writer. I’m not very good, but every Christmas, birthday and Valentine’s Day, we write each other.
"It’s been a tradition for the last eight years!"

LATEST: GUNS N’ ROSES singer AXL ROSE’s promise to release the band’s long-awaited new album CHINESE DEMOCRACY in March (07) has fallen through again.
In a statement in December (06), the NOVEMBER RAIN singer announced the album would hit stores on 6 March (07), but the release is back off the schedule after another unannounced setback.
A new post on the group’s website today (22FEB07) states, "There is no official release date, as the band is currently mixing, but after some delays and scheduling difficulties, things appear to be moving along.
"The good news is that all of the recording for the album has been completed." Chinese Democracy will be the first Guns N’ Roses album released since the 1993 covers collection THE SPAGHETTI INCIDENT.
Meanwhile, a high-quality version of one possible album track, called BETTER, was pulled from a number of blogs yesterday (21FEB07) at the request of the band’s management.
Despite the album’s delay, Guns N’ Roses are still planning to perform their first African shows in late April (07) and May (07).

LATEST: Pop star MICHAEL JACKSON is reportedly in talks with the producers of AMERICAN IDOL, despite reports earlier this month (FEB07) he would not be appearing on the hit TV show.
Media reports claimed the star was going to have his own "Idol" theme-week and would mentor the remaining contestants.
American Idol host RYAN SEACREST tells American publication Us Weekly, "It’s certainly a possibility. It would definitely make compelling television." Seacrest confirms that Jackson met with the show’s creator, SIMON FULLER, in Las Vegas a few weeks ago.
A spokesman for Jackson says any plans to appear on American Idol are still "unconfirmed" at this stage.
A source close to the pop star adds, "Michael is in talks."

THE WHITE STRIPES lead singer JACK WHITE and his wife KAREN ELSON are expecting their second child.
White, 31, and Elson, a British-born model, 28, have been married for nearly two years.
A source close to the couple tells American publication Us Weekly, "They’re very happy and excited." The couple has a daughter, SCARLETT, who is 10 months old.

DAME HELEN MIRREN has branded ageing Hollywood actors "grumpy old men" - as they can’t cope with the lack of female attention as they get older.
THE QUEEN actress also hit out at male stars who turn their hand to directing, adding they are merely trying to "regain control of their lives", as their can no longer be empowered by their good looks.
She says, "A weird thing happens to male actors, especially movie stars, in my experience.
"They become grumpy old men. A young male actor feels great - all the girls want him, he’s a star. As actors get older that sense of not being in control of their destiny grates on them and they get grumpy.
"They move into directing to try to feel a sense of control."

British actor HUGH GRANT has dismissed rumours he will attend former girlfriend ELIZABETH HURLEY’s wedding next month (07).
The NOTTING HILL star’s invitation to Hurley and fiance ARUN NAYAR’s nuptials was rumoured to have been overlooked because of his relationship with JEMIMA KHAN - who the British model/actress allegedly disliked.
Khan and Grant split last week (ends17FEb07) after three years together, but Grant’s spokesperson insists the break-up does not mean he will be a wedding guest.
She says, "Hugh is not going to Elizabeth’s wedding. He was not invited and there is no weirdness or bitterness." Hurley and Nayar’s wedding will take place in March (07) in Gloucestershire, England, followed by a traditional ceremony in India.
Grant and Hurley dated for 13 years, before splitting in 2001.

Tragic actress/model ANNA NICOLE SMITH attempted to befriend BRITNEY SPEARS through a personal video message to the star, according to press reports.
Smith, who died earlier this month (FEB07), reached out the hand of friendship to the troubled pop princess in September last year (06) when she and Spears were both eight months pregnant - Smith with DANNIELYNN, and Spears with JAYDEN JAMES.
In the video message, Smith allegedly says, "If you see this for some oddball reason… and you want to be friends, I would love so much to hang out with you.
"I think you’re totally cool, and I think we’re about to have babies around the same time… I would just love to meet you.
Smith then apparently tells Spears to call her lawyer and then companion HOWARD K. STERN, adding, "Take cares, and I hope that you do great on your second pregnancy.
"I’m sure you won’t even see this, but if you do, I’d really love to talk to you. Bye." However, a source tells American publication US Weekly Smith failed to meet Spears before her death.

Dutch filmmaker FONS RADEMAKERS has died of emphysema. He was 86.
Director Rademakers died in a Geneva hospital close to his home across the French border today (22FEB07).
Rademakers’ 1986 movie DE AANSLAG (THE ASSAULT), told the story of a young boy killed by Germans during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, winning an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, and also picked up a Golden Globe. De Aanslag was the first motion picture from the Netherlands to take the Foreign Film Academy Award.

Hollywood hunk ORLANDO BLOOM is building an eco-friendly new house in London.
Bloom is encouraging others to follow suit - insisting the simplest of gestures can make a massive difference to the future of the planet.
Speaking at a pre-Oscar party to benefit environmental group Global Green USA, Bloom tells the New York Daily News, "It (the house) is as green as I can make it. It’s got solar panels on the roof, energy efficient light bulbs newer technology basically that is environmentally friendly." The actor, who will be able to plug in his hybrid car into the ‘green house’, adds of the difference others can make, "It doesn’t have to be overwhelming, there are simple things we can do."

Property mogul DONALD TRUMP wants to be buried in the grounds of his golf course in New Jersey when he passes away.
The star hopes to build a wedding chapel at the 525-acre Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, which he later plans to convert into a mausoleum for himself and his family, according to reports in The Star-Ledger of Newark, the area’s local newspaper.
Trump has filed a planning application to the Bedminster Planning Board, with a decision expected to be reached next month (MAR07) at a review.
The course, which opened in 2004, was built on the former estate of iconic car manufacturer JOHN DeLOREAN.

A website has been ordered to reveal the names of internet users who illegally posted J.R.R. TOLKIEN’s novels online.
The LORD OF THE RINGS author’s estate took site eSnips to court after copies of the epic series and THE HOBBIT began to appear online.
The site complied, but a US district court in New York has granted the estate the right to contact those who uploaded the novels, to inform them their activity was "unlawful".
Tolkien’s estate insists it will not seek harsher penalties, because the posters made no financial gain from putting the books online.

BOB GELDOF’s 17-year-old daughter PEACHES has slammed former SPICE GIRL VICTORIA BECKHAM for her super-skinny frame - and insists she should "sort out her life".
Geldof believes the star needs to start eating properly, despite claims from Beckham her size zero figure is "natural".

THE SHINS frontman JAMES MERCER found the inspiration to write the US band’s third album WINCING THE NIGHT AWAY when he lived next door to a crack house.
The songwriter decided to move out of his Portland, Oregon residence when his living situation turned dangerous.
He says, "I did finally move when the police started raiding their house and the neighbours blamed it on me.
"They were threatening to kill me, drive-by shoot my house, all that stuff." Mercer realised it was time to leave when his neighbours stole the master copy of The Shins’ debut album OH, INVERTED WORLD.
He adds, "They broke into my house and stole the most important thing I’ve ever done, the thing that changed my life. And it kept going downhill from there."

Rap mogul KANYE WEST is to be honoured by The New York Chapter of One Hundred Black Men for his outspoken social views.
The star is to be named an Advocate for Social Change by the organization, which provides opportunities for educational and economic empowerment in African-American communities.
Other celebrities being honoured will include NFL star CURTIS MARTIN and gospel singer KIRK FRANKLIN.
The ceremony will take place on 22 February (07) as part of the group’s Annual Benefit Gala, according to AllHipHop.com.

Rapper BEANIE SIGEL’s supervised release has been extended by a judge in Philadelphia, after he failed a drug test and associating with convicted felons.
In October 2004 the hip hop star was sentenced to 12 months and one day in jail plus two years of supervised release after being convicted of drug and gun charges.
A hearing was called for yesterday (21FEB07) after he failed to inform his probation officer he had been stopped and questioned by police last August (06) while in the company of a felon known to police. Four months later Sigel - real name DWIGHT GRANT - tested positive for codeine morphine.
Speaking in court yesterday, the 32-year-old told JUDGE R. BARCLAY SURRICK he had been given a prescription by his doctor days before a scheduled drug test.
A prescription was shown to the court - but Judge Surrick extended the supervised release by six months, telling him he must get his situation "under control or otherwise I’m going to have to take action you’re not going to appreciate."

A woman claiming to be the mother of MICHAEL JACKSON’s three children has been banned from intervening in the custody battle between the pop star and his ex-wife DEBBIE ROWE.
NONA PARIS LOLA JACKSON, from London, filed court papers in October (06) demanding she be allowed to take part in the settlement - but Los Angeles Superior Court Judge ROBERT SCHNIDER yesterday (21FEB07) ruled the 36-year-old failed to properly notify Jackson and Rowe of her claim.
The woman has also failed to provide "credible evidence" she is the mother of PRINCE MICHAEL, 10, PARIS, 8 and PRINCE MICHAEL II, four.
In her papers, Nona Jackson claimed, "Michael and I are a sexually active couple and have been this way from the beginning." Rowe is the mother of Prince Michael and Paris. Jackson has never identified the mother of Prince Michael II.
