New Yorkers fancying a spot of poetry now need go no further than their local launderette.
Local writer Emily Ruben thought it was about time a wash and spin cycle became a more arty experience and organised a series of readings called ‘Dirty Laundry: Loads of Prose’, at laundrettes across New York.
Ruben - who describes herself as the "Mistress of Laundry" - said of the project which started last year: "Just mixing laundry and writing seemed completely natural to me because truly in life and metaphorically as a writer, everyone has dirty laundry."
