THE KILLERS and ARCTIC MONKEYS both emerged victorious at the Brit Awards tonight (14FEB07), picking up two prizes each.
The Killers walked away with Best International Group and Best International Album for SAM’S TOWN, while Arctic Monkeys took Best British Group and Best British Album for their debut WHATEVER PEOPLE SAY I AM, THAT’S WHAT I’M NOT.
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE won Best International Male Solo Artist and JAMES MORRISON was a surprise win for Best British Male Solo Artist at the Earls Court ceremony in London.
Best International Female Solo Artist went to NELLY FURTADO, while AMY WINEHOUSE collected Best British Female Solo Artist.
Reformed boy band TAKE THAT’s comeback track PATIENCE won Best British Single.
OASIS were honoured with the Outstanding Contribution To Music accolade, which was presented to PAUL WELLER last year (06)
. Oasis ended the night with a three song set including CIGARETTES AND ALCOHOL and MORNING GLORY.
Among the acts who performed were RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS and SCISSOR SISTERS.

FANTASTIC FOUR star IOAN GRUFFUDD is offering his services to DAVID BECKHAM when the two Brits become neighbours in Los Angeles - in exchange for soccer tips.
The Welsh actor is thrilled by the news the soccer superstar is heading for a new life in California after signing a deal to play with the Los Angeles Galaxy - and he’s keen to help his acting career.
Gruffudd, who plays in several Los Angeles-based amateur soccer leagues with pal ROBBIE WILLIAMS, whenever the ANGELS singer is in town, can’t wait to befriend Beckham.
He says, "Everybody I know is all excited because David Beckham is living here. I’m determined to become his acting coach." And if that doesn’t work out, Gruffudd hopes to help the Beckhams get to grips with LA life.
The actor has been living in Los Angeles for years and he loves the city: "I can read my script in my hot tub instead of reading my script in a cold flat in Kilburn (north London). That’s the reality of it.
"I loved my time living in London but I haven’t looked back… I’m embracing my new adventure in Los Angeles. I’ve been welcomed with open arms. I love the lifestyle - you got to get in your car to go everywhere, get your shopping, go to the gym and play soccer with Robbie Williams.

Boston-born actors and THE DEPARTED co-stars MATT DAMON and MARK WAHLBERG are set to star in a new film about boxer ‘IRISH’ MICKY WARD.
Paramount Pictures has fast-tracked THE FIGHTER, a drama about the Massachusetts-born boxer’s unlikely road to the world lightweight title.
Ward had a series of tough losses to ARTURO GATTI that are considered among the best and most brutal bouts of the past 50 years.
Wahlberg would play Ward, with Damon taking the role of DANNY ECKLUND, Ward’s half-brother who battled drugs and the temptation of crime to become the boxer’s trainer.
HOUSE executive producer PAUL ATTANASIO is currently working on a rewrite of the script, and if approved by Wahlberg and Damon, the picture would begin shooting in Massachusetts this summer (07).

LATEST: SIR PAUL McCARTNEY’s estranged wife HEATHER MILLS has slammed reports she has signed up for US reality TV show DANCING WITH THE STARS.
Reports that broke yesterday (13FEB07) suggested the former model would be a contestant and donate her earnings to an animal welfare charity.
Mills’ attorney has rubbished the reports, telling American publication Us Weekly they are "not true".
Former contestant JERRY SPRINGER will announce the new participants next week (21FEB07). The show debuts in the US on 19 March (07).

The topless dancers at the club chain where ANNA NICOLE SMITH once worked are planning a St Valentine’s Day tribute to the late actress.
Dancers at the 13 Rick’s Cabaret gentlemen’s clubs across America will blow a kiss to Smith at midnight tonight (14FEB07), as a mark of respect to their former colleague, who died last week (08FEB07).
The Houston, Texas Rick’s Cabaret was always close to Anna Nicole’s heart it’s where she first met her future husband, oil tycoon J HOWARD MARSHALL, in the early 1990s.
Rick’s Cabaret co-founder ROBERT WATTERS recalls, "Anna Nicole and Howard Marshall were a fixture. Howard would come in during the day and spend money.
He’d have a drink and watch Anna Nicole.
"She would often dance for him with a friend and he seemed to get as much pleasure out of watching her interact with another dancer as anything else."

Actress THANDIE NEWTON fought to change the plight of her character in WILL SMITH’s new film THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS - because she couldn’t portray a mother who would just give up a child.
The mother of two plays the former wife of homeless father-turned-business tycoon CHRIS GARDNER in the new movie, but couldn’t believe her real-life character was really such a terrible mother.
In the film, Newton’s character gives up on her struggling husband and dumps him with their young son - something the actress struggled with.
She says, "In rehearsals the director said, ‘I’m sorry Thandie. She’s just a bitch,’ and I said, ‘That didn’t make any sense.’ "No one leaves their kids unless there’s psychological dysfunction there and we couldn’t have four scenes where that’s not suggested." Newton reveals even the movie’s lawyers got involved when she attempted to tweak the script to help her come to terms with her character’s decision to walk out on her family.
She adds, "It was a hard one."

RYAN PHILLIPPE was forced to learn how to fight at a young age in order to defend himself growing up in a tough neighbourhood.
The FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS star grew up in a rough part of Delaware and earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
He explains, "I started when I was eight years old. I was small for my age, I used to get beat up and I lived in a rough neighbourhood and my parents thought it would be a good idea for me to learn how to defend myself.
"I did it until I was 18 and won tournaments and stuff. THE KARATE KID was part of the motivation. I think Karate enrolments went up probably like 90 per cent when that movie came out." The star admits he hasn’t had the chance to use his experience to defend himself in real life.
He adds, "You know, I’ve spent a lot of time being a dad and making movies, so there’s not a whole lot of occasion to fight!"

Actress ELLEN HANLEY, best known for creating the role of THEA LAGUARDIA in FIORELLO, died of a stroke on Monday (12FEB07). She was 80.
Hanley made her Broadway debut as MARY in the original production of ANNIE GET YOUR GUN in 1946 and starred in the musical BAREFOOT BOY WITH CHEEK, which earned her a Theatre World Award, the following year (47).
She also starred in a well-received off-Broadway revival of THE BOYS FROM SYRACUSE.
Her other Broadway credits include the revue TWO’S COMPANY, FIRST IMPRESSIONS, in which she took over for POLLY BERGEN in the lead role of ELIZABETH BENNETT, and THE FIG LEAVES ARE FALLING.
Her final Broadway appearance was in the original Broadway production of 1776, in which she succeeded VIRGINIA VESTOFF as ABIGAIL ADAMS.

The producers of hit TV drama LOST have been handed an expensive headache after film canisters featuring master footage was erased by an airport X-ray machine.
The show bosses are still trying to figure out who to blame for the costly mistake, which could leave them having to spend an extra $300,000 (£154,000) to reshoot the scenes on the destroyed film.
According to sources, film of the show accidentally went through an X-ray machine at Honolulu International Airport in Hawaii, where the series is shot and was wiped.
Lost producers claim security personnel at the airport are to blame because they didn’t take note of warning labels asking them not to put the film canisters through an X-ray machine.
But airport insiders state the film canisters were mistakenly mixed in with passenger luggage, leading to the error.

ANNA NICOLE SMITH’s former nanny has added to the media storm swirling around the late actress by filing legal documents suggesting her former boss was an unfit mother.
In an explosive new legal document, Bahamian nanny QUETHLIE ALEXIS states Smith starved her baby daughter DANNIELYNN because, "She wanted her baby to be sexy." According to the sworn affidavit written in December (06), and just obtained by website TMZ.com, Alexis claims she was told to "underfeed" the tot.
Speaking about Smith by her real name VICKY LYNN MARSHALL, Alexis states, "Ms Marshall was obsessed with making sure that her baby was sexy.
"Ms Marshall knew that the correct amount of baby food was three ounces every three hours… Ms Marshall insisted that the maximum I was to give was 2.5 ounces." In the affidavit, Alexis tells the authorities that baby Dannielynn "is badly underweight and not thriving, as a baby should".

LATEST: A Los Angeles judge ruled this morning (14FEB07) that former model ANNA NICOLE SMITH’s body could be released from a Florida medical examiner’s office.
The ruling came just hours after a Florida judge upheld an earlier California court ruling that Smith’s body be held for 10 days until DNA tests are complete.
According to Smith’s attorney RON RALE, "The judge found that there was sufficient DNA, as we had contended, that had been taken by DR PERPER, who is the chief medical examiner in Broward County." The former Playboy Playmate’s ex-boyfriend LARRY BIRKHEAD is fighting to prove he is the father of Smith’s baby DANNIELYNN.
Birkhead’s attorney had argued that accurate DNA testing would not be possible if the body was moved from the coroner’s office.
Today’s legal decision came as the Florida coroner’s office warned that Smith’s body was decomposing and should be released as soon as possible.
Rale says Smith’s remains will be sent to her former lawyer and companion HOWARD K. STERN, who also claims he is the father of the model’s five-month-old daughter.
He adds, "We want Anna Nicole to have a proper burial. We want the process to commence so that she doesn’t lose a day." Stern’s attorneys are expected to appear in a Florida courtroom later today (14FEB07) to uphold the latest decision from the California judge, saying that Smith’s body can be released.
Smith’s estranged mother, VIRGIE ARTHUR, is also fighting for the body to be released to her, so that she can take it back to her daughter’s native Texas.

Rockers FALL OUT BOY have claimed their first number one album after selling 260,000 copies of INFINITY ON HIGH in its first week of release.
The total was enough to give the band an edge over NORAH JONES, who crashed into the top spot last week (07FEB07) with NOT TOO LATE; she slips to number two on the new Billboard chart.
AMERICAN IDOL rocker CHRIS DAUGHTRY stays at number three with his eponymous debut, while HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL star ASHLEY TISDALE enters the new chart at number five with her debut release HEADSTRONG.

Ledger unveiled the label’s first act, Australian teen GRACE WOODROOFE, at the 9 February (07) opening of Los Angeles lounge Edison.

EMINEM’s former wife KIM MATHERS has ditched her shy persona because she’s sick of the way her ex-husband portrays her in rap songs and interviews.
Mathers recently recorded an interview with US news show 20/20 and now she’s sitting down with TV psychologist DR KEITH ABLOW to talk about her turbulent marriage.
During a recent taping of the DR KEITH ABLOW SHOW, the bitter ex admits she’s tired with the perception people have of her after listening to her ex’s vicious attacks.
She says, "I’ve decided to come forward and speak up because of the way that I believe that the world, or the people in general, view me - because of things that have been said about me by MARSHALL (Eminem) on record and in print." Mathers insists she was the victim in the relationship, which was doomed to failure because her husband was an ego-maniac.
She explains, "When Marshall’s first tour started is when his ego just went poof… He was untouchable.
"Every time I talked to him, I wasn’t allowed to question him about what was going on. If I did I was just told that I should be grateful that he still talks to me. I just pretty much felt like a piece of c**p.
"I want the world to know that I realise I made mistakes. I can’t hide them.
They’re out there, but that I’ve learned from them and I’ve grown and that I’m a wonderful caring mom and I just don’t want people to pass judgment as soon as they see me or hear my name."
