LATEST: Troubled rocker PETE DOHERTY has been fined £300 ($600) and banned from driving for two months after a London court found him guilty of a catalogue of road offences.
The BABYSHAMBLES frontman was arrested on 19 November (06) when police officers saw him driving his car erratically near his east London home. He was then charged with failing to produce driving documents, driving with no insurance, driving a car with no MOT and driving a car while failing to comply with driving licence conditions.
The London court dished out his punishment today (13FEB07) and warned the singer he faces jail if he is caught driving without a licence again.
Doherty accepted the charges but blames his management for not renewing his insurance.
Defence lawyer, SEAN CURRAN, says, "Mr Doherty accepts that he was driving with no licence and insurance. "He had left the task of getting an insurance policy in the hands of one of his managers, who hadn’t done so."

British director STEPHEN FREARS is helping to make a new movie about JEAN CHARLES DE MENEZES, the Brazilian man mistaken for a suicide bomber and shot dead by police.
The film will examine the build up to de Menezes’ death in London on 22 July 2005 and the impact his killing had on the Brazilian community in the city.
Frears will act as executive producer.
The movie will be directed by HENRIQUE GOODMAN, who says, "It’s a film about how their lives were changed by this tragic event.
"I think the public knows a lot about this story, but they don’t know who Jean Charles was, and who suffered because he died. That’s what we want to tell in this film.
"We’re scheduled to film this summer. Hopefully in Berlin next year, we’ll be at the film festival - that’s what I’m hoping for."

Veteran filmmaker FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA is making an autobiographical movie based on the conflicting generations of an artistic family.
TETRO, which Coppola will produce and direct, is based on what the 67-year-old describes as his own "very unusual family".
Coppola’s late father CARMINE COPPOLA was a composer; his sister TALIA SHIRE is an actress; and his nephews NICOLAS CAGE and JASON SCHWARTZMAN are both actors.
He says, "I think at this age, I’m more disposed to look at my life in terms of dramatic material.
"Maybe I’m less frightened or more confident about writing something that is fiction even though it has its basis in real things that I’ve seen and felt.
Maybe it won’t offend anybody, I hope."

"People should appreciate these efforts." Bamako is based around a trial in an African courtroom of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund’s efforts to aid developing countries.

British actress MICHELLE RYAN has beaten out competition from some of Hollywood’s leading ladies to land the title role in a US TV update of 1970s television show THE BIONIC WOMAN.
The 22-year-old, best known in her native UK as ZOE SLATER in BBC soap EASTENDERS, has signed up to play JAMIE SOMMERS, a professional tennis player who suffers a skydiving accident before being transformed into The Bionic Woman.
The original show starred LINDSAY WAGNER and ran from 1976 to 1978. It was a spin-off from the LEE MAJORS-starring THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN.
The new NBC programme will be a "reimagination" of the original series.

DANNY GLOVER has categorically ruled out a fifth LETHAL WEAPON film, despite the recent resurgence of interest in 1980s action movies.
The star, who played ROGER MURTAUGH in the police thriller which spawned three sequels, refuses to follow in the footsteps of SYLVESTER STALLONE, BRUCE WILLIS and HARRISON FORD who have committed to new ROCKY, RAMBO, DIE HARD and INDIANA JONES installments.
The 60-year-old says, "I feel very strongly that it’s past it’s point. Lethal Weapon was a great movie series but it should be left in the 1980s.
"Having said that, if Sylvester wants to revive Rocky and Rambo then that’s up to him. I haven’t seen the new one yet (ROCKY BALBOA) but I’d be very interested to." The last Lethal Weapon sequel was released in 1998.

LATEST: Socialite NICKY HILTON is being sued by a Chicago development group for breach of contract over a hotel renovation project in her name.
The 23-year-old is accused of not keeping her end of a April 2006 agreement to promote the redevelopment of ‘Nicky O’s Chicago’, a Nicky Hilton hotel.
ROBERT FALOR Investments and Grand USA Hotel Supply also claim Hilton contracted out interior design work she was supposed to perform and tried to charge it back to the developer. PAUL FISHER, Hilton’s agent, is also named in the lawsuit.
ELLIOT MINTZ, a media representative for Hilton, says, "Things are not always as they appear.
"When the facts surrounding this matter are known to the public I think you will find out that the person who has been most impacted by this action will be Nicky Hilton.
"In the meantime, I don’t think anybody should draw any conclusions based on the simple filing of a lawsuit."

British actors DOUGRAY SCOTT and CLAIRE FORLANI are engaged and planning a wedding for later this year (07).
DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES star Scott, 41, and MEET JOE BLACK beauty Forlani, 34, will marry at an as-yet-decided location in the UK.
The pair met after being introduced by mutual friends.
Scott says, "For a while I wasn’t sure if I wanted to get married again, but then I met the perfect woman.

DAME JUDI DENCH is so convinced she won’t win this year’s (07) Best Actress Academy Award she has advised gambling film fans to bet on another candidate.

Speaking at the Berlin Film Festival, Dench said, "Don’t put any money on me because you’ll lose.
"The thing about the Oscars, it’s strange because in the theatre you would say, ‘Break a leg.’ I can’t because I’m to have a knee operation. I can’t go to the awards. I’m going to have my leg broken and put back together.
"I will watch and cheer from my bed."

Muslim musical icon YUSUF ISLAM asked his mother to choose his wife, because he couldn’t decide who to spend the rest of his life with.
Islam - who changed his name from CAT STEVENS and walked away from music when he converted to Islam in 1978 - denies having an arranged marriage. But the singer admits his mother helped him choose wife FAUZIA MUBARAK ALI in 1979.
The 58-year-old says, "People think it was arranged because my mother was involved. But I was thinking of marrying one of two girls I was dating. I brought each to my mother at different times and asked which she thought I should marry. It was her choice.
"Of course, it was mine as well, but I gave my mother the option to be part of that decision."

Veteran composer ENNIO MORRICONE insists he will never retire because he can’t imagine another way of life.
The 78-year-old, who will receive an honorary Academy Award later this month (FEB07), has written more than 400 movie scores in a career spanning nearly five decades.
He tells Billboard, "I could retire, but I have to admit I enjoy doing this.
I like music, I like working with great directors and with friends.

YUSUF ISLAM, the artist formerly known as CAT STEVENS, was "appalled" when newspapers accused him of calling for SALMAN RUSHDIE’s head on a platter.
Newspapers linked the singer to a Fatwa proclaimed after Rushdie committed blasphemy in his 1989 novel THE SATANIC VERSES.
But Islam insists he merely questioned Islamic law.
The 58-year-old says, "I never supported the Fatwa.
"At a lecture back in 1989, I was asked a question about blasphemy according to Islamic law. I simply repeated the legal view according to my limited knowledge of the scriptural texts, based directly on the historical commentaries of the Koran (which states that blasphemy is a capital offence).
"The next day, newspaper headlines read: ‘Cat Says Kill Rushdie’. I was appalled."

Former GO-GOS singer BELINDA CARLISLE was offered PAULA ABDUL’s spot on talent show AMERICAN IDOL - fuelling rumours the judge will be replaced.
COURTNEY LOVE recently claimed to have been approached about taking Abdul’s place, but show producers blamed it on a telephone hoax.
Now Carlisle insists she was asked to replace Abdul several years ago.
She says, "As far as American Idol goes, I was actually approached a couple of years ago about possibly replacing Paula Abdul.

The ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ contestant - who is on suicide watch following her alleged racist bullying of fellow housemate Shilpa Shetty - has been in hiding since receiving death threats and is now said to be suffering from agoraphobia - a fear of open spaces.
One of Jo’s closest friends revealed to Britain’s Star magazine: ‘She’s terrified of the public reaction to her and her safety. She keeps saying, ‘Everyone hates me.’ ‘She stays in her room all day, she doesn’t go outside - she’s too scared.
There are some days when she doesn’t even get dressed.
‘Our main priory at the moment is getting Jo back home.’ Jo, 27, has also been prescribed stronger anti-depressants after reportedly having a breakdown.
The former S Club 7 singer is said to be ‘fragile’, forcing psychiatrists to increase her current medication dosage.
The source added: ‘She’s very fragile. She’s having a breakdown. She’s still very tearful and is shaking and rocking a lot.
‘We’re in contact with Jo’s doctors on a daily basis. They felt they had no choice but to increase her pills. If it helps her get through the day a bit easier, then that’s a good thing.’ To make matters worse, Jo has also reportedly stopped eating - sparking further health concerns.
It has been claimed a Big Brother psychiatrist told Jo he would never have let her go on the show if he had been allowed more than a ten-minute consultation with her.
