LEONARDO DiCAPRIO is set to star in a feature film chronicling the corruption and subsequent collapse of US corporation Enron.
The film will be based on the book CONSPIRACY OF FOOLS by New York Times reporter KURT EICHENWALD.
THE DEPARTED star will play a newcomer to the Houston, Texas-based energy corporation who slowly uncovers the corruption that drove Enron into bankruptcy in 2001.
The scandal was previously chronicled in the 2005 documentary ENRON: THE SMARTEST GUYS IN THE ROOM.
THE LONGEST YARD screenwriter SHELDON TURNER, who is writing the script, says, "Kurt made the factual stuff read like a thriller, and it felt right to tell the story from the point of view of an outsider."

But Schumacher’s Dreamgirls project was axed when WHY DO FOOLS FALL IN LOVE? was released and flopped in 1998. On the back of the FRANKIE LYMON biopic, producers felt the time was wrong to release an R&B movie musical.

NICOLAS CAGE wanted to name his new baby son KYLE, but chose the name KAL-EL after his wife ALICE decided they should select something more exotic.
The couple decided the name, which is derived from the SUPERMAN comics, was a perfect fit for their new baby.
He explains, "My wife wanted a unique name and originally I thought of the name Kyle and then she said, ‘No, something more unusual and but beautiful.’ "Then I remembered the old Superman comics and Kal-El was his original name on Krypton. So I wanted a name that stood for something good, was unique and American and that’s all three.
"I just thought it was a beautiful name and it had kind of a magical ring to it."

Actress THANDIE NEWTON is still upset CRASH director PAUL HAGGIS wasn’t straight with her about the film’s controversial "hand rape" scene - because she’d have portrayed her character differently if she’d have known.
The pretty Brit’s character is violated by MATT DILLON’s cop in the gritty Oscar-winning film, and she admits she was perhaps a little naive to shoot the controversial scene without knowing exactly what Haggis wanted in advance.
She tells Giant magazine, "When I read the script, that scene… was really sparcely written… I’m sure this is because otherwise they wouldn’t have gotten funding: ‘He puts his hands inside her skirt.’ I thought it was more like, ‘He suggests what he could do.’" But her suspicions were raised when Haggis left the scene until the end of the shoot and then couldn’t look Newton in the eye when he briefed her about the shot.
After quizzing her about the underwear she had on, and suggesting she might be more comfortable wearing "boy shorts," the writer/director told his star, "We need the scene to really, really, really drive the point home," according to the actress.
She now regrets not finding out more about the controversial scene before filming her character’s reaction later in the movie - something she had already shot.
Newton adds, "I would have played the bedroom scene (with TERRENCE HOWARD) very differently. I would have played her as traumatised, not furious."

ANNA NICOLE SMITH’s partner HOWARD K. STERN has suffered another major blow as he fights for custody of his late girlfriend’s baby - the tragic model’s best friend has accused him of "aggravating" her death.
Professional volleyball player JACKIE HATTEN was chatting to Smith’s mother VIRGIE ARTHUR over the phone when they both heard the 39 year old had died in Florida.
And Hatten says she immediately knew Stern was involved because she has seen him plying her pal with drugs.
Speaking on CNN show LARRY KING LIVE last night (12FEB07), Hatten said, "I’ve witnessed Howard give her Vicodin, Valium, morphine, Demerol… Shall I go on? I mean it’s too much for someone to take over a period of time.
"That’s considered aggravated death… Acclaimed effect over the years…
It’s just not acceptable.
"She (Anna Nicole) did go to rehab in 1995… (but) when you have people going, ‘Here, mamma, take it mamma, I’ll take it with you, as Howard did…’ That is what killed my friend, in my opinion." And Hatten insists Stern is not the biological father of Smith’s baby DANNIELYNN - she supports photographer LARRY BIRKHEAD’s paternity claim.
She adds, "The timeline… seems to correlate." And Hatten only wishes Smith had stayed with Birkhead because they were meant for each other: "They did live together for two years after a blind date. They fell madly in love. They were trying to have babies the first day they met in my bed, OK? I have pictures of them in my bed together."

LATEST: The family of murder victim RON GOLDMAN subpoenaed several Hollywood organisations yesterday (12FEB07) for information on payments OJ SIMPSON may have received.
The Goldman family have been waging a decade-long battle to collect on a 1997 civil judgment which found Simpson liable for the deaths of his ex-wife NICOLE BROWN SIMPSON and her friend, Ron Goldman.
The subpoenas demand access to records kept by the Screen Actors Guild, the Producers Guild of America and the American Federation of Television Radio Artists, which may have information on payments Simpson received for THE TOWERING INFERNO, THE NAKED GUN and other past film and TV appearances.
Ron Goldman’s father FRED alleges Simpson is trying to avoid paying the $33.5 million (£17 million) judgment, which is now estimated to have grown to $40 million (£21 million) with interest.
A California state judge last month (JAN07) issued a restraining order barring Simpson from spending or moving any earnings from past deals, including books, films and sports memorabilia.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge GERALD ROSENBERG’s ruling later applied to the advance Simpson may have received for his unpublished book, IF I DID IT.
The book allegedly described how Simpson would have killed his ex-wife and Goldman, but was cancelled after a public backlash against the project.

Grammy Award winner TONY BENNETT is set for a movie tribute to be produced by CLINT EASTWOOD.
The actor/director, a longtime fan of the I LEFT MY HEART IN SAN FRANCISCO crooner, will executive produce BRUCE RICKER’s new documentary THE MUSIC NEVER ENDS, which will blend archival footage with recent live performances to tell Bennett’s life story.

THE DOORS drummer JOHN DENSMORE is desperate for friction between the US and Iran to end - because he wants to become one of the first western rock stars to perform there.
The LIGHT MY FIRE rocker has struck up a friendship with Persian musician REZA and is performing with the world music star in his native Los Angeles next month (MAR07) - but Densmore would love to play in Tehran.
He says, "I love the idea of these two countries playing music together as opposed to threatening to nuke (bomb) each other… Music is a universal language.
"I’d love to head off to Iran and play there. That would be great but he said, ‘Right now, you might get arrested.’ "Half the population there is under 30 and it’s really bubbling under. Reza tells me the kids there are into everything musically." Densmore had a taste of Iranian music fans last summer (06) when his new group TRIBALJAZZ performed at a showcase for Persian culture.
He recalls, "They were great, they handclapped through a lot of the tunes.
They’re so happy that you’re up there. I want more of this."

Pop star MICHAEL JACKSON will appear on hit reality show AMERICAN IDOL and may even mentor contestants, according to media reports in the US.
Jackson is currently working on a comeback and has turned to Idol creator SIMON FULLER to help revive his career.
According to RealityTVMagazine.com, the star will have his own "Idol" theme-week and may mentor the talent on the show. Producers of the show have hinted for weeks at a "big event show" during the new season and during a recent conference call, executive producer NIGEL LYTHGOE mentioned Jackson, saying they wouldn’t want it to "slip out with somebody telling their mom that Michael Jackson is coming".
The THRILLER star is also working with choreographer and director KENNY ORTEGA, who said last week (ends09FEB07) Jackson is weighing all his options regarding a comeback.
Ortega explains, "We’re talking business and looking at lots of different possibilities. This is blue-sky time with a lot of different scenarios up in the air. "We’re working through all of them to find the best, the one that makes the most sense and that’s good for everybody."

QUEEN LATIFAH is so keen to start a family she’s applying to become a foster parent.
The rapper-turned-actress has her sights set on playing mum to 18 kids - both natural and adopted - and she’s already making plans to see if she’s got what it takes to be a parent.
She says, "I’m filling out the paperwork to be, like, a foster parent, so maybe sometimes I can kinda just help out in that way - just when they need, like, an emergency placement and I happen to be home." Once she gets her foster parent permit, the CHICAGO star insists she’ll start adopting - but, unlike MADONNA, ANGELINA JOLIE and MEG RYAN, she’ll be looking for a needy American.
She adds, "I wanna adopt an American baby… just because there are so many kids here that need our help.
"My sister’s a social worker in Newark, New Jersey and there’s so many kids that could use like a good home.
"It’s nothing about going out of the country, that’s great, and I get why a lot of people do (that) - because of our laws here (but) I just feel, like, if I do (adopt) I’ll probably just help a kid right in the ‘hood."

Country couple TIM McGRAW and FAITH HILL have become the victims of burglars in the Hollywood Hills.
Thieves broke into the singers’ Los Angeles mansion over the weekend and stole an unspecified amount of money, according to police reports.
McGraw and Hill, who divide their time living between Los Angeles and Nashville, Tennessee, were not at home when the burglary took place. The crime was discovered after a person arrived at the mansion on Monday morning (12FEB07) and called police.
Authorities are investigating the crime but had no immediate suspects as WENN went to press.
