TV WRITER ABBOTT REVEALS BIPOLAR PAIN
British TV writer PAUL ABBOTT has suffered from bipolar disorder since he was 11 and battles suicidal urges every day of his life.
The award winning creator of dramas SHAMELESS and CLOCKING OFF insists he will never commit suicide, but reveals he constantly thinks about killing himself.
Abbot says, "It crosses your mind every day
. You look at a bridge and think: ‘Oh, that’s high enough.’" Crediting his two children with helping him overcome his urges, Abbott adds, "They were my immunity." The 47-year-old blames his condition on a "brutal" rape he suffered at the age of
11. He tried to kill himself by jumping from a roof at the age of 15 and was put into psychiatric care after attempting it again a year later.
Abbott now controls his condition with prescribed medication
