BILLY JOEL IS NO FAN OF THE US NATIONAL ANTHEM
BILLY JOEL has mixed emotions about performing the US National Anthem before this weekend’s (04FEB07) Super Bowl - because it’s "a difficult song." The PIANO MAN will become the first performer to sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl twice when he takes to the field in Miami, Florida before the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts compete for the American football championship.
But he admits he’s not a fan of the song he’ll be singing before the big game.
He says, "It’s a difficult song, it’s not the greatest song ever written and… the lyrics are written in the early 19th century vernacular, so it’s difficult for people to understand the words."
