Immigrant Instruction
A Canadian town council has told immigrants they must not stone women to death in public.
The bizarre set of rules issued by Herouxville council in Quebec has fuelled accusations the predominantly French-speaking province is not tolerant towards the customs and traditions of immigrants.
The declaration stated: "We wish to inform these new arrivals that the way of life which they abandoned when they left their countries of origin cannot be recreated here.
"Therefore we consider it completely outside these norms to kill women by stoning them in public, burning them alive, burning them with acid or circumcising them." The councillor who devised the declaration, Andre Drouin, told Canada’s National Post newspaper the town is not racist.
