BEN AFFLECK was desperate to quit smoking after playing a chain-smoking bail bondsman in the new film SMOKIN’ ACES.
The 34-year-old was a regular smoker and had to increase his habit dramatically while making the movie.
He explains, "The whole week that I shot, I smoked, like, five packs a day.
"By the time the movie was over, I was so sick of smoking, I just didn’t want to do it anymore, and I quit.
"I have this celluloid record of the last time I smoked!"

The 34-year-old is slowly getting back to work and wants to call her colleagues in the industry to find out the how they handled the transition.
She explains, "I’m not going to work like I did before I had kids. I want to call KATE WINSLET and say, ‘Can you tell me how to do this?’ "Or call CATE BLANCHETT and ask her to describe (her day) from 7 am on, and tell me what to do, because I don’t know how to do this!"

KATIE HOLMES "definitely" wants more children with husband TOM CRUISE after having such an easy pregnancy with her daughter, SURI.
The 28-year-old experienced no morning sickness while she was expecting and had no food craving besides cupcakes.
The former DAWSON’S CREEK star gave birth to the couple’s daughter last April (06) and was thrilled by the experience.

Is she tired? Does she need a fresh diaper? - and figuring out how to really help her." When asked if she wants more children with Cruise she adds, "Definitely!"

CARLOS LEON is not happy his 10-year-old daughter with pop star MADONNA has lost her American way of speaking and has acquired a British accent.
The couple’s daughter LOURDES was featured in her mother’s concert film last year (06) and sounded like a normal American child.
But a source tells the New York Daily News at the recent UK premiere of Madonna’s film ARTHUR AND THE INVISIBLES the 10-year-old had "a full-on British accent." Madonna’s spokeswoman, LIZ ROSENBERG, insists the reports are exaggerated saying, "It wouldn’t be surprising if Madonna’s daughter has some sort of English accent, since she lives in London most of the time. To me, she always sounds a little American and a little British. All this seems perfectly normal to me. What I can tell you, she’s a natural beauty - no surprise there.
"She’s frankly a very unspoiled and lovely child, and for that I give credit to Madonna, (stepfather) GUY (RITCHIE) and Carlos."

Singer/songwriter MARC COHN is returning to Colorado for his first performance since he was shot in the head during an attempted carjacking.
The WALKING IN MEMPHIS singer, 47, was injured in Denver in August 2005 during a botched carjacking.
JOSEPH YACTEEN, 27, pleaded guilty to attempted first degree murder in the shooting and was sentenced in October (06) to 36 years in prison.
Cohn tells Boulder, Colorado’s The Daily Camera he feels some anxiety about returning to the state saying, "The truth of the matter is, I’m well aware of it though it’s hard to convince your brain, the chances of anything like that happening again, especially where it’s already happened once, are pretty slim." The singer, who is married to US ABC News anchor ELIZABETH VARGAS, will play shows in Boulder, Breckenridge and Aspen.

Pop star JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE was high on marijuana when he made an emotional appearance on ASHTON KUTCHER’s prank show PUNK’D in 2003.
The MY LOVE singer was tricked into believing his possessions were being taken by the tax authorities and appeared to be on the verge of tears.
The 26-year-old star has previously admitted that while recording his solo album JUSTIFIED, he regularly smoked marijuana.

Australian pop star DELTA GOODREM was hospitalised on Sunday (28JAN07) in Dublin after complaining of stomach pains.
The 22-year-old was admitted to Beaumont Hospital by boyfriend BRIAN McFADDEN and spent the week undergoing tests before being discharged yesterday afternoon (01FEB07).
Goodrem’s mother LEAH has rushed to Ireland but downplayed the incident telling Sydney’s Daily Telegraph her daughter is on the mend and "doing fine".
She adds, "She went in with suspected appendicitis, and she’s been unwell and had some tests and she’s been released." Goodrem’s mother insists she "wasn’t worried" about the mysterious illness and confirmed it was not linked to the cancer battle the singer waged as a teenager.

A Chinese man claims he can break nails with his teeth.
Cai Dongsheng, 41, from Chongqing city, has been showing off his skills to neighbours.
Dongsheng has been putting 6cm nails, wrapped in gauze to protect his mouth, in a vice and then gripping them between his teeth.
One neighbour said: "It’s amazing to see such strong teeth, they are really made of steel." Not everyone is so supportive of Dongsheng’s talents.
He revealed: "I trained myself for a long time and snapped more than 10 kg of nails, although my family is not supportive. I trained myself secretively." Dongsheng’s next project is to break a reinforced steel bar.

Polish lace-makers have been slammed by the Catholic Church after they decided to make sexy lingerie instead of priests’ robes.
Workers in the mountain village of Koniakow, who have made altar cloths and priests’ robes for years, decided to start making racy underwear after struggling to survive.
The new online business has proved a big success, but some say the skimpy pants have brought shame on the village.
Mieczylaw Kamieniarz, who runs the Koniakow lace museum, said: "All of Koniakow is ashamed.
"We even made lace for the Pope. Now people are going to wear Koniakow lace on their bottoms." But Malgorzata Stanaszek, who set up Koni-Art underwear, insisted: "We weren’t selling much lace so we had to think of something. If we listened to everything the priest says, we wouldn’t earn anything."

People in a Chinese city are flocking to see a hen that appears to be a maths wizard.
Residents from Shenyang in Liaoning Province, have been left amazed by a hen called Guai Guai - who can ‘peck’ the answer to maths questions when her owner Li points to numbers on a board.
Guai Guai can also recognise the names of some animals, fruits and cars, reports China Daily.
Li said: "I regard the hen as my own daughter.
"My big dream is to apply for a Guinness World Record for the hen after she learns more and becomes more outstanding."

British police were alerted after a cat trying to pull a mouse out of a jam jar got its head stuck.
A concerned motorist went to Thorpe Wood police station in Peterborough after seeing the cat wandering down the road with the jar on its head and the mouse millimetres from its nose.
Three officers and a receptionist unsuccessfully tried to pull the jar from the cat’s head.
Eventually the cat freed itself - and the mouse - by smashing the jar on the floor.
A police spokeswoman said: "It was like a scene from ‘Tom and Jerry’.
"I don’t think anyone had ever seen anything like it before. The mouse ran off - it is still running around the police station somewhere."

A retired Chinese policeman is displaying a life-size picture of himself in uniform on his balcony to deter burglars.
Zeng, from Panyu in Guangzhou, dreamt up the idea after £800 worth of valuables were stolen from his home last September.
He says the lifelike portrait has proven to be an effective deterrent, reports China Daily.
Since hanging the picture outside his ground-floor apartment three months ago, the former officer’s plan has successfully scared other burglars away.

A Kazakhstan company is offering to queue for their customers.
For a small fee, the company will stand in line for clients and phone them when they are nearing the front of the queue.
Queues to apply for driving licenses or register property are notoriously long in Kazakhstan.
Company deputy director Ruslan Akkuzhin said: "We can stand in any kind of a queue. As a rule, the worst queues are related to real estate issues." For an additional fee, the company will queue and register property for clients.
The two directors are currently doing all the queuing, but will be soon hiring more staff to help out.

An overweight cat in Britain has been prescribed anti-depressants after being the victim of bullying.
Twiglet, a 12-year-old grey short-haired tabby, was too afraid to go out after being taunted by other cats and her weight ballooned to 15lbs.
The miserable pet also needs anger-management therapy because she keeps biting her owner Jackie Martin, from Brighton.
Jackie told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: "She developed an anger management problem and bites a lot. The vet said she had anxiety issues and depression brought on by the stress of being bullied by other cats.
"She was given the drugs to calm her down and alleviate anxieties.
"The problem is if you have a violent cat it’s just not possible to make her eat the tablets." Twiglet was prescribed a daily dose of the Prozac-like drug amitriptyline and has since shed 6lbs.

A Russian man has lost his wife in a poker game.
Andrei Karpov, from Murmansk, ran out of money in the middle of a game and decided to offer opponent Sergey Brodov his wife to stay in the game.
After playing a winning hand, Brodov came to collect Karpov’s wife Tatiana, who was so furious she decided to divorce her husband.
Tatiana, who is now in a relationship with Brodov, said: "It was humiliating and I was utterly ashamed. But as soon as my ex-husband did that I knew I had to leave him.
"Sergey was a very handsome, charming man and I am very happy with him, even if he did ‘win’ me in a poker game."
