BUBLE REGRETS DISPARAGING GRAMMY AWARDS
LATEST: MICHAEL BUBLE was only joking when he told reporters he was boycotting the Grammy Awards because his category wasn’t part of the televised event.
The 31-year-old told The Canadian Press in an interview on Tuesday (30JAN07) it was "bulls**t" that his category was handed out at a dinner before the formal ceremony.
Buble later issued a statement clarifying the controversial remarks saying, "I’m extremely honoured to have been nominated for a Grammy in the best traditional jazz category. "I did indeed make my feelings known that the category should be broadcast live during the award ceremony. This category honours the interpreters of some of the greatest songs ever written. "There are millions of people like me who love and respect this music." The singer also said, during the initial interview, he didn’t want to show up at the awards because he was sure to lose to music legend TONY BENNETT. He stated, "Why should I go to the Grammy’s? Because I’ll lose." Buble said his comments about Bennett were a lame attempt at humour adding, "I was just trying to be funny and I don’t think it turned out very funny."
