Soccer ace DAVID BECKHAM has signed up to portray Disney hunk PRINCE CHARMING in a new star-studded campaign to promote Disneyland and Disney World.
The Real Madrid star, who hit the headlines earlier this month (JAN07) when he announced plans to sign for Major League Soccer team the LA Galaxy in California, jumped at the chance to play SLEEPING BEAUTY’s Prince.
Celebrity photographer ANNIE LEIBOVITZ, who is masterminding the campaign, asked Beckham personally to pose for her and when he agreed she flew to his adopted Spain to capture Prince David on horseback near a lake just outside Madrid.
Beckham tells newspaper USA Today, "I’m the prince, and I’m sort of slaying the dragon, which is something I’ve never done before, obviously." The sports superstar jumped at the chance to play a Disney hero - because his three sons are all fans of the studio’s animated movies.
He explains, "It’s a big part of their lives." And snapper Leibovitz admits she was impressed with the soccer stud’s acting talents during the shoot, adding that if reports his move to California is partly to pursue his dreams of becoming a movie star are true, she feels he’d make a great leading man.
She says, "Saving Sleeping Beauty came natural to him. He’s a determined actor, and he became the Prince when he got on that white horse. He was serious about it."

BEYONCE, SCARLETT JOHANSSON and LYLE LOVETT are bringing the magic of Disneyland and Disney World to life in a series of arty new ads, snapped by celebrity photographer ANNIE LEIBOVITZ.
The acclaimed photographer persuaded a host of famous friends to help her publicise Disney’s Year of A Million Dreams campaign - and dressed them up as their favourite animated characters.
Beyonce conjured up ALICE in an ALICE ON WONDERLAND scene, which also features OLIVER PLATT as the MAD HATTER and Lovett as the MARCH HARE, while Johansson poses as CINDERELLA for another of the breathtaking ads.
The LOST IN TRANSLATION star couldn’t wait to be turned into a fairytale princess and wear a $325,000 (GBP166,600) HARRY WINSTON crown, according to Leibovitz.
She tells America’s USA Today, "Scarlett Johansson couldn’t wait to put on that tiara." And Johansson admits, "It wasn’t hard to coax my foot into the iconic glass slipper; it’s every girl’s dream." LINDSAY LOHAN has upset residents of the Los Angeles rehab facility she checked into earlier this month (JAN07) because they claim she’s treating the facility like a hotel.
The fellow troubled souls seeking counselling and solace at the Wonderland centre are upset with Lohan’s trips out of the facility - and the fact she’s being allowed to continue working on her new movie while in rehab.
The final straw reportedly came yesterday (25JAN07) when the MEAN GIRLS star took a break from rehab to have her Mercedes serviced and shop.
Sources at Wonderland have aired their grievances to news website TMZ.com, claiming the actress is getting special treatment.
They also tell the site Lohan has a masseur, hairstylist and makeup artist, who visit her regularly.
But the actress’ publicist, LESLIE SLOANE ZELNICK, insists Lohan is taking rehab seriously, and the criticism is unwarranted.
She says, "Lindsay is 100 per cent not getting special treatment. She’s getting the same as everyone else. This isn’t the Betty Ford Clinic, it’s not a lockdown facility. There is personal time.
"All these naysayers who keep blogging and speaking out… they don’t know what she’s going through, they’re not there. They shouldn’t speak until they’ve gone through something like that."

Officials at the upcoming Berlin Film Festival in Germany have threatened to ban Chinese movie PING GUO (LOST IN BEIJING) from competition unless footage they deem inappropriate is cut.
In total, the censors have demanded 15 minutes of sex and gambling scenes be cut from the film, and if producers and director LI YU don’t comply, they will cut the movie from their programme.
Producer FANG LI insists he will comply with what is required - as long as Berlin Film Festival bosses explain what is inappropriate about the scenes they want cut.
He says, "I’m very flexible and willing to co-operate, but I cannot accept simply being told to cut things. I need explanations of why."

Boxer MIKE TYSON’s teenage daughter has taken her mother to task on US TV after complaining about her extreme methods to keep the 15-year-old’s weight down.
MIKEY TYSON has been fighting obesity issues for years and has now gone public with her battle against her mum, KIMBERLY SCARBOROUGH.
The teenager reveals her mother put locks on kitchen doors and alarmed refrigerators in a desperate attempt to stop her overweight daughter from snacking.
The pair appeared on a recent taping of former model TYRA BANKS’ US talk show to air their issues.
Tyson revealed, "I felt as though she was overbearing. It just felt like she was always on top of me. It forced me to eat more because I was more frustrated and upset.
"I felt as though I was an outcast because I’m the only one in the house that doesn’t have the combination to the door and, one day, I just broke it off. I just felt like it shouldn’t be there. It was just too much for me to handle." The teenager and her mother now have a better relationship thanks to Scarborough being more sympathetic about her daughter’s weight issue.
She said, "I guess I was a little forceful… It was frustrating back then because I didn’t have the knowledge… I was not educated to obesity."

LATEST: CLIVE GOODMAN, former royal editor of British newspaper the News Of The World has been sentenced to four months in jail for illegally intercepting private messages left on the British royal family’s mobile phones.
Goodman was found guilty of listening in on voicemails left for Royal aides and PRINCE WILLIAM between February and June last year (06) at London’s Old Bailey.
Judge MR JUSTICE GROSS told Goodman, "This was low conduct, reprehensible in the extreme.
"This case is not about press freedom. It is about grave, inexcusable and illegal invasion of privacy. The targets were members of the Royal Family. They hold a unique position in the life of this country.
"This was serious criminal conduct to which we must not become numbed. Such sustained criminal conduct should be marked by a loss of liberty." Goodman and private investigator GLENN MULCAIRE both admitted to the charge of unlawfully intercepting telephone messages.
Mulcaire admitted a further five charges of unlawfully intercepting voicemail messages left by a string of public figures, including publicist MAX CLIFFORD and supermodel ELLE MACPHERSON, and was jailed for six months.

New Zealand opera legend DAME KIRI TE KANAWA stands to lose a small fortune if found guilty of pulling out of a deal to perform with Aussie rocker JOHN FARNHAM.

LATEST: The attorney representing the husband of the woman killed in a 30 December (06) car pile-up involving singer BRANDY has attacked the Los Angeles authorities for not making the case a priority.
The R&B singer, real name BRANDY NORWOOD, failed to notice cars slowing down in front of her on the 405 freeway in Los Angeles and ploughed her Land Rover into a Toyota, setting off a chain reaction of collisions.
The pile-up left the driver of the Toyota Brandy hit, AWATEF ABOUDIHAJ, critically injured. She died later in hospital.
Brandy recently issued a public apology as a fellow motorist involved in the crash revealed the singer admitted fault at the scene.
The R&B star was not arrested, but Los Angeles police officials, who have spent the last month investigating the crash, are set to hand the matter over to prosecutors.
Attorney BILL SAYED, who is representing the deceased woman’s husband, has slammed the authorities, claiming they kept information from his client in a bid to protect a celebrity.
He says, "I think there may have been a level of quietness due to the fact Ms Norwood was involved." The lawyer reveals Aboudihaj’s husband, who does not live in Los Angeles, did not hear about the death of his wife from authorities, but read about the tragedy on the Internet.
Sayed adds, "He tells me, `I’m here on my birthday alone because I don’t have my family here.’"

A US lingerie company have created pants designed to conceal the smell of farts.
Under-Ease pants have an in-built multi-layered, replaceable filter, made of felt, charcoal and fibreglass wool to absorb odour.
The underpants are made from air-tight fabric and are completely sealed with elastic around the waistband and legs to prevent any gas escaping.
Under-Tec inventor Buck Weimer said: "Under-Ease are underwear for protection against bad human gas.
"We get a lot of jokes - but we don’t doubt that this is a serious product that serves a purpose." The pants are machine washable and the filters can last as long as several months, depending on the frequency of use and laundering.

A Chinese thief has returned a mobile phone and thousands of yuan to his victim after she sent him 21 touching text messages.
Teacher Pan Aiying had her bag - containing her phone, bank cards and 4,900 yuan (£321) – snatched by a man on a motorcycle as she cycled home from work.
Instead of calling the police Pan texted: "You must be going through a difficult time. If so, I will not blame you.
"Keep the yuan if you really need it, but please return the other things. You are still young. Correcting your mistakes is more important than anything." Two days later the bag was returned with nothing taken and a message reading: "I’m sorry. Please forgive me.
"You are so tolerant even though I stole from you. I’ll correct my ways and be an upright person."

Border control officers in Kazakhstan have arrested a man trying to smuggle 500 parrots into the country in his car.
It is not known how the Kazakh man, entering the country from neighbouring Uzbekistan, fitted the 500 exotic birds into his Audi.
A Kazakhstan National Boarder security service official told Kazakhstan Today: "Border guards discovered a live cargo of 500 parrots in his car." It is against international law to trade in wild parrots according to the U.N. Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.

Chinese taxi drivers in the country’s financial capital of Shanghai are to be provided with "spit sacks" to prevent them spitting into the street.
The Shanghai Patriotic Sanitation Committee will issue 45,000 taxis with a sack, fixed to a metal grill which surrounds the driver’s seat.
Cabbies currently wind down their windows and spit on the side of the road.
Newspaper China Daily said: "The ‘no spitting’ regulation came after Shanghai decided to make people give up the ugly and unhygienic habit and present a healthy city for the 2010 World Expo." A previous measure had been to attach spittoons to the streets’ litter bins, but the public mistook them for ashtrays.
Organizers of the 2008 Beijing Olympics are worried that visitors will be disgusted by the city residents’ ill-mannered spitting and littering habits.

A TV channel in the Netherlands is searching for visibly disfigured contestants to take part in a new reality dating show.
Producers plan to launch ‘Love at Second Sight’ on SBS 6 on February 20.
Their website asks: "Do you have a visible serious handicap and are you looking for a partner?" A spokesman said: "The programme is a platform for people with such problems to share experiences and feelings in a positive way with the rest of the Netherlands and to show that they are absolutely not pitiful.
"The main aim of the programme is to remove prejudice about these people, to create more acceptance and respect and, of course, to find the love of their lives." The show was originally going to be called ‘Monster Love’.
