UNSIGNED BAND WIN COCA-COLA SETTLEMENT
LATEST: An unsigned band from the UK have reached an out of court settlement with Coca-Cola after the company used one of their tracks on a TV advertisement without permission.
British Ska group 7 SECONDS OF LOVE accused the soft drinks giant of using the song NINJA in an Argentinean Coke commercial, along with its distinctive kitten-filled video animation. Coca-Cola later awarded the band an undisclosed amount of money, with a substantial portion of the settlement being donated to two British charities.
7 Seconds Of Love frontman JOEL VEITCH admits the leftover money will be a welcome reward for the band.
He says, "They have a policy of not litigating against bands and we came to a nice agreement.
"Ninja will be re-recorded and released in the next few weeks. It’s really good for the band. You never know, maybe we could get into the charts.
"We’ve never had the money to do a very good job, but now we’ve got into a good studio and have got a fantastic management team behind us." Following the settlement, the advertisements have been taken off air, and 7 Seconds Of Love retain all the rights to the track and video.
