LATEST: Reports romantically linking KELLY SLATER to newly-single CAMERON DIAZ have been ridiculed by the champion surfer’s mum.
Diaz has been spotted spending time with pal Slater on Oahu, Hawaii’s North Shore recently, leading gossips to suggest the couple is an item.
But Slater’s mother, JUDY, insists there is nothing romantic going on.
She tells the upcoming issue of America’s In Touch magazine, "They have been friends for a long time.
"Every time somebody sees somebody else eating dinner, they think it’s a romantic thing. It’s silly." Diaz split from boyfriend JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE just before Christmas (06). They announced the end of their three-year romance earlier this month (JAN06).
Judy Slater insists surfing fan Diaz called her son and asked if she could join him for a break from the madness surrounding her Timberlake split.
She adds, "She just called him and asked if she could come over for a few days. It was nothing they had planned."

Actor ZACH BRAFF quit his job waiting tables as soon as he landed the lead role in the hit TV series SCRUBS, but showed up for one last shift while intoxicated.
The 31-year-old was struggling to make ends meet as an actor in Los Angeles and came in to help the restaurant’s short-staffed manager one last time.
He explains, "When I got Scrubs I was working as a waiter. In fact, I got cast and I made three phone calls, my mom, my dad and then the manager of the restaurant and said ‘I quit.’ "The manager said, ‘That’s great, but can you work tonight?’ and I said, ‘Yeah.’ So I went in and worked, but I was wasted. "(The customers) were like, ‘Sir, my appetizer?’ and I’m like ‘Yeah, yeah, I’ll get to it."

The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating allegations its lead investigator in the ROBERT BLAKE murder case withheld evidence from the defence.
The complaint was filed by M GERALD SCHWARTZBACH, who helped get Blake acquitted in a criminal trial, and ALLAN FIEBELKORN, a car dealer manager who testified at Blake’s civil trial. The former BARETTA star was acquitted in 2005 of killing wife BONNIE LEE BAKLEY, but a civil jury found that he intentionally caused her death and awarded her family $30 million (£15 million).
Bakley was fatally shot in 2001 outside a restaurant after dining with Blake.
The claim against lead investigator, Detective RON ITO, alleges he did not adequately investigate the link between two ex-stuntmen, who said Blake asked them to commit the crime, and CHRISTIAN BRANDO, who had an affair with Bakley.
It also alleges that Ito failed to tell the defence that one stuntman had used methamphetamines and that the other had been in a mental ward.
Brando, the son of MARLON BRANDO, has denied any involvement in the murder.

GREY’S ANATOMY star JUSTIN CHAMBERS is disappointed the show’s Golden Globe Award win has been overshadowed by controversy surrounding co-star ISAIAH WASHINGTON.
The medical series picked up the award for best TV drama last week (15JAN07), but Washington’s subsequent comment in the show’s press room where he denied calling co-star TR KNIGHT "a faggot" marred the celebration.
Washington has since sparked a public backlash, with many people calling for him to be sacked from the show.
Chambers says, "It’s an unfortunate situation. They’re trying to work it out.
"I think what makes it most unfortunate is the show, we won the Golden Globe and it’s kind of overshadowed that fact and the fact that it’s such a large cast and we work a lot of hours and we get along really well.

Disney senior executive ROY DISNEY has filed for divorce from his wife of 51 year, citing "irreconcilable differences." Disney, the nephew of studio founder WALT DISNEY, wed wife PATRICIA in 1955, just after Disneyland opened in California.

Rapper LIL’ WAYNE is being sued by promoters in Florida for missing a concert date and refusing to reschedule.
Nunoise Entertainment and Jahfari Promotions, both based in Tampa Bay, filed the lawsuit last Friday (19JAN07), in the Miami-Dade County Circuit Court.
The lawsuit claims the rapper, real name DWAYNE CARTER, signed a contract on 18 September (07) to perform at a Tampa nightclub on 29 October (07).
According to the lawsuit, Lil’ Wayne missed the event and returned a $15,000 (£7,700) deposit, but he still owes promoters $45,000 (£23,000) for cancelling the show.
The 24-year-old was also obligated to schedule another performance in the Tampa Bay area to make up for the missed date, but has not done so. According to the promoter’s lawyer, MARLOWE BLAKE, "He did miss a date, he admitted he missed a date, and he was supposed to make it up. It’s a simple breach of contract type of matter." Besides the $45,000 in actual damages, the lawsuit also claims the star’s cancellation caused more than $200,000 (£103,000) in lost profits from the concert.

Singer/actress MANDY MOORE was shocked when she found herself suffering from depression for no apparent reason.
Just weeks after her ex-boyfriend ZACH BRAFF admitted he suffered from mild depression, Moore has revealed she also struggled with the blues.
She tells American publication Jane, "I’m a very positive person, and I’ve always been glass-half-full. So it was like someone flipped a switch in me." Moore, 22, and Braff, 31, split last year (06), but she insists the separation did not trigger her depression, but may have made it worse.
She says, "The break up added to what I was going through, but it’s not the complete reason. It definitely doesn’t help if you’re already in that place." Moore has been working on new songs, which she says suit her newly reflective mood.
She adds, "Writing has been really therapeutic. These little nuggets that have come up over the past eight months have made me look at things in a different way."

The HEAVEN IS A PLACE ON EARTH hitmaker will release her seductive new album just before St Valentine’s Day (14FEB07), hoping the romantic songs strike a chord with loved-up fans.
Carlisle says, "After discovering and coming to love French music, I decided to record these amazing songs myself with a playful, contemporary feel." AMERICAN IDOL judge PAULA ABDUL fears she has become an easy target for critics because she is the most compassionate judge on the popular reality show.
The STRAIGHT UP singer’s odd behaviour during live interviews last week (ends19JAN07) has been questioned after she seemed to be impaired, but had blamed a technical glitch for her strange interviews, which left her speaking on camera to one TV station, while getting audio in her ear from another.
She says the appearance on the hit show has been a blessing, but one that comes with constant media scrutiny, including speculation about drug and alcohol use.
Adbul says, "I’ve never been drunk in my life. I don’t do recreational drugs.
"I’ve been in this business 20 years (and) never had to weather the storm of publicity, controversy. It’s this show…I love it, but it’s often daunting.

Australian band CROWDED HOUSE are reuniting for their first world tour in a decade. The band’s former frontman NEIL FINN and bassist NICK SEYMOUR will hold auditions for a new drummer in Melbourne, Australia this week (begs22JAN07).
PAUL HESTER, the band’s founding drummer, took his own life two years ago (05). Finn has regularly dismissed notions of reforming the band, but reconsidered after Hester’s tragic death .
Last year (06), Finn toured with SPLIT ENZ, his band that pre-dates Crowded House. In March (07), he will release a solo album, on which Seymour plays bass.
Finn tells Sydney’s Daily Telegraph, "In the shadow of Paul’s passing, we had more than enough reason to seek each other out and take a bit of comfort from each other. "But we’ve reconnected musically, too. I’ve really enjoyed him playing bass.
There’s something instinctive that we’ve got together and it’s pretty undeniable." Rehearsals will begin as soon as a new drummer is found and sources say the new band will commit to a 12-month world tour. The surprise re-forming comes 10 years after the band’s emotional farewell performance on the Sydney Opera House steps.
New dates will include a performance at April’s (06) Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in California, which will also feature a reunited RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE among the headliners.

LATEST: LINDSAY LOHAN will be allowed to leave her rehab facility during the day to film new movie I KNOW WHO KILLED ME. The MEAN GIRLS star checked herself into the Wonderland Centre in Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles for 30 nights last week (18JAN07), but she’ll spend her days in downtown LA shooting the new thriller before returning to rehab each night.
Her publicist LESLIE ZELNICK confirms, "She will continue working but will spend her nights at the recovery facility."
