In late December (06) the former back-up dancer tried to return nearly $15,000 (£7,700) worth of pricey Libertine and Mastermind Japan clothes that Spears purchased for him.
According to American publication In Touch, Federline returned the items at exclusive Los Angeles store Maxfield, which included a jacket that cost $1620 (£831).
The 28-year-old wanted a cash refund for the merchandise, which still had the original tags, but when the clerk refused, he settled on a store credit.
A source explains, "He was looking for pocket money. Now he’s going to try to sell the credit." Federline may have more cash soon - he is rumoured to be appearing in a high-paying ad during the US Super Bowl in February (07).

TOM CRUISE and KATIE HOLMES are rarely seen in public with their nine-month-old daughter SURI because they fear she may be the target of kidnapping plots, according to media reports in the US.
The last time Suri was spotted in public was a brief appearance in her father’s arms during her parents’ honeymoon last year (NOV06), where the couple were surrounded by eight bodyguards.
During the baby’s appearance at the couple’s wedding in Italy, the family took extra security precautions and were protected by 200 police officers, as well as members of an Italian security force.

Pop star MADONNA has come to the defence of her pal ROSIE O’DONNELL regarding her ongoing war of words with real estate mogul DONALD TRUMP.
The HUNG UP star was unaware of the feud while on a family holiday, but found out about the spat during a promotional tour for the animated film ARTHUR AND THE INVISIBLES in New York City.
She explained, "Basically, she is a standup comic. LINDSAY LOHAN has been warned by doctors that she is suffering from liver damage and could face serious health consequences if she doesn’t curb her drinking.
The MEAN GIRLS star underwent an emergency appendectomy on 4 January (07), the latest in a long list of medical ailments the young star has suffered in the past few years.
A source tells American publication National Enquirer, "The appendectomy was routine, but what doctors discovered in her blood work was not.
"Lindsay’s liver panel shows her drinking is taking a terrible toll on her health. Her liver enzymes are extremely elevated." The high levels of two particular liver enzymes indicate that some of Lohan’s liver cells are damaged and are leaking these enzymes into her blood.
In addition to the raised enzymes, the star is also reportedly suffering from extremely low levels of protein in her liver.
A source adds doctors "couldn’t believe she was even walking around".

TV’s BUCK ROGERS, GIL GERARD, has shed 140 pounds (63.5 kilograms) after undergoing gastric-bypass surgery.
The heavyweight former TV hunk weighed in at a whopping 350 pounds (158.8 kilograms) when doctors told him he was morbidly obese - and they suggested surgery to help him lose weight fast.
The 66-year-old actor, who played Rogers on TV from 1979 to 1981, agreed to let Discovery Health channel cameras follow his operations and subsequent progress.

LATEST: A top prosecutor in the Bahamas insists a decision will be made soon on whether an inquest is needed into the death of reality star ANNA NICOLE SMITH’s son who died under mysterious circumstances in Nassau last year (06).
Director of Public Prosecutions BERNARD TURNER said results of a police investigation into the death of 20-year-old DANIEL SMITH will be given to Chief Magistrate ROGER GOMEZ by the end of the week (ends12JAN07).
Gomez or another magistrate will decide whether or not an inquest into Smith’s death is necessary.
Daniel died at his mother’s hospital bedside on 10 September (06) from a lethal combination of methadone and two antidepressants, just three days after she gave birth to a daughter.
Bahamian police completed an investigation into his death and submitted the report to the attorney general’s office in October (06). The office is responsible for reviewing the findings, but do not make recommendations on inquests.
Turner added, "Every matter had to be investigated based on the peculiarities of that case. You have to keep in mind that although he died in the Bahamas, he had only arrived here a few hours earlier, so this ended up not being an entirely local matter."

LATEST: Twelve finalist have been chosen to compete for the chance to perform with pop star JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE at the Grammy Awards next month (FEB07).
The finalists in the ‘My Grammy Moment’ contest, which features unsigned artists, range in age from 18 to 30.
The 10 women and two men are from a wide range of US states including California, North Carolina, New Jersey, Texas, Georgia, Alabama, Florida and New York.
Recording Academy President NEIL PORTNOW says, "We received an overwhelming number of video submissions and the top 12 finalists selected reflect a diverse group of talented individuals from across the country." The top five finalists will be announced on 17 January (07) and the top three finalists will be announced during Super Bowl weekend in the US (ends04FEB07).
The final three will go on to rehearse with Timberlake in Los Angeles.
Fans will be allowed to vote via the internet and phone text messages during the 49th annual Grammy Awards on 11 February (07) and the winner will be announced live on the show just before his or her performance with the star.

The former England captain is set to sign a five-year deal with the Major League Soccer club after his contract with Real Madrid expires on June 30 this year.
The incredible deal means that David will earn just under £500,000 a week for the duration of his contract.
