THE QUEEN TOPS GOLDEN TOMATO AWARDS
DAME HELEN MIRREN’s portrayal of the British monarch ELIZABETH II in THE QUEEN has been named 2006’s most favourably reviewed film at the eighth annual Golden Tomato Awards.
The awards honour the best reviewed movies of the year, as compiled by website RottenTomatoes.com, from print, online and broadcast film critics.
The Queen - which charts the royal crisis endured by Queen Elizabeth II following the death of DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES in 1997 - garnered a 98 per cent ranking, while DANIEL CRAIG’s debut as 007 spy JAMES BOND in CASINO ROYALE followed closely behind with 95 per cent.
BORAT: CULTURAL LEARNINGS OF AMERICA FOR MAKE BENEFIT GLORIOUS NATION OF KAZAKHSTAN took the Golden Tomato for comedy, CARS topped the animated film category, MARTIN SCORCESE’s THE DEPARTED was named best thriller, and PAN’S LABYRINTH won best foreign film.
The Moldy Tomato award, for the worst-reviewed film of the year, was taken by BASIC INSTINCT 2.
