FARROW PHOTOGRAPHED RAPE AND TORTURE VICTIMS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:51 am

Humanitarian actress MIA FARROW is hoping to shed light on the plight of African refugees in Darfur and Chad by releasing hard-hitting photographs she took of the mutilated victims of civil strife.
The actress travelled to the African trouble spots last summer (06) with humanitarian workers she claims have since lost their lives in the chaos, and documented the horror she saw there.
Risking her own life, Farrow took shots of burning villages and victims tortured by gangs of Jan Jaweed militia who roam the Sudan borders raping, maiming and killing refugees.
She says, "I have a book of photographs I took, called NEVER AGAIN. I’ve already given them to the Holocaust memorial.
"Among the photos I took, there’s one of a child I saw covering a baby with her own body to protect the baby. The family was slaughtered and the baby has not made a single sound since that day.
"There is a photo of a woman who had a cigarette put out on her face when she was raped by 30 to 40 men. All the women showed me their scars and tendons sliced.
"I took a photo of a man with his eyes gouged out by the Jan Jaweed in a hospital in eastern Chad, a five room hospital without windows or doors. I took a picture of a 14 year-old boy who was shot in the chest and a photo of a woman thrown into her own burning hut.
People are just waiting for protection and what you see is a traumatised population. People were waiting for me on mountain tops with signs that read ‘Need protection, need food.’ "I want to pay tribute to the women there that I had to leave, and to live up to my promise to them that I would pass on and tell people what is happening."
